Sports fans like to go to nice places too. Every game/concert I've been to the first thing that I mention when asked how it was is usually 'man that place was nice', or I call it a dump. You can draw a lot of people by having a place that Mobilians can brag about and then you can change that 'bad sports town' moniker. But having said that, it just cost too much to try to improve it across the board at once. Let baseball die and maybe down the road we can make another run at it. Especially once downtown grows in residency.
That sports town narrative if way overrated. We still paying for the Georgia Dome and it’s not even here anymore

New Water Street loft apartments.
Quote:
The city of Mobile has sold the 47,000-square-foot former Seamen's building at 350 Water St., and the buyer plans to combine that property with his adjacent 8,000-square-foot warehouse building at 351 N. Water St., and develop loft apartments, according to Vallas Realty. The combined properties have more than 1.4 acres of frontage on Water, St. Joseph and Adams streets

Default Downtown Mobile has come a long ways in the past 10 years and the momentum is exciting.

I ran across these two videos today and they both capture some of the growth.

I don't make it downtown very often, so this has slipped off my radar. I definitely need to try it soon!

If Mobicon (and Questcon) is getting successful in downtown every year, Dave and Busters should plan on buying one of the spaces in downtown.

The downtown renaissance is in full swing.Areas that were desolate are now seeing life within the past 4 years.Long-empty downtown Mobile spots are finally blossoming | WPMI

There are about 3 elements that we are still missing and the most important one to me is a shopping district. I can really see the old Press being converted into a 2 level shopping arcade.
