I turned 16 in May of 1961. I don't remember even hearing of this place. About that time, there was a teen club by the name of Jambalaya located on Osage, at Truman. There was another one at 59th and Blue Ridge Cutoff. I believe it was called the Chicken Shack.

I know the place. I went there when I was home on leave from the USAF in January of 1962. Seems like it hadn't been there very long. I went a couple of times and then left for my first permanent station in Clovis, NM in Feb.

Was the Chicken Shack out by Ruskin Heights? I remember a club out there that we used to go to occasionally looking for girls. It was a ways to travel so we didn't go often nor did we pick up girls often....

Ruskin was far south of 59th and Blue Ridge Cutoff. Ruskin is around 105th Street. I am not familiar with a club there, but at 16, I don't even recall driving that far south. On the other hand, I do recall driving north to St. Joe to see WCHS play football.

I too recall going to St. Joe to watch a Bears football game. I think St. Joe was in our conference weren't they? I remember one game at Willy Chris where we played a team from Central. They were huge compared to our guys and we got our butts beat.

Yes, the old Pony Express League. Those were some fun days.

It was the only building on the NE corner in 1963, but I don't recall it. However, I was still rather young at the time, and we rarely went out in that area.

The 1963 view-

Even with that visual aid, I still cannot call it up from RAM. KMart could not have been too far away from 1963.

A bit before my wild swinging time myself, but . . . I don't recall the place altho I would have had to have seen that place being it was just east of Strike n Spare and on the way to Blue Springs/ Grain Valley.

We eventually lived SW of that intersection within the KC city limits. Just a few blocks west was Independence, then a few blocks later Raytown, all of which was Raytown schools. Noland must have been the eastern boundary as a friend who lived on Emery adjacent to the drive-in theater went to Truman. Not sure how far north the district line went, probably to 40.

A belated HNY to all. And sympathies and prayers with respect to our dear Sally to her family.

I don't think K-Mart was there until until the early 70s, maybe late 60s. There was also a competitor, Venture, there in 1974. I think it was further north, closer to I-70. I bought my first electronic calculator there, a Bomar Brain, which they deceptively changed the price on me. I wrote a complaint to the FTC but they dismissed it. See, I was argumentative even at an early age
