Interesting to see some of the evolution of I-70. It looks like it was still going thru rural areas at that point. I'm wondering at what locations they had to start knocking buildings down. When I couldn't find my Dad's old place of employment address on a modern day map it's when it occurred to me that the building was taken as part of I-70 nearing downtown KC.

Comparing the 1957 aerial views to the 1963 views gives a good understanding of what was removed for the freeway. Here are the links...

I see this morning where the lowest price for regular gas in Independence is 1.89 at Casey's at Savage and 23rd a couple blocks from my old homestead.

Highest gas price is 2.25 at the Hyvee at Noland and US 40.

I did not see anything for the One-Pump Oil Co, chuckle.

Just like that, Casey's dropped to $1.76 with the lowest in Independence at 1.71.

The low-high here in Centennial is 1.97 to 2.29.

What a difference 6 years makes!

1957

1963

40 Highway is the diagonal street, 47th St runs across near the bottom. The eastern boundary is the MOPAC RR just west of Noland. Near the west side is Pittman Road.

Interesting. I-70 of course would miss The Mall which was being constructed in 57, and looks to be going thru mostly undeveloped area, SAVE for the poor neighborhood to the upper left which looks like its block was broken in half. What street might that be, MAD?

You guys in Mizzou are so lucky. Here in South Carolina $2.06 is the cheapest I've seen it And we have the country's 3rd lowest state gas tax. They say it's pipeline costs from the gulf coast to here that makes our gas more expensive.

I read today that the auto manufacturers have inventory problems because of the cheap gas. Everybody wants SUV's or pickups now. I'm concerned that we are doing exactly what OPEC wants us to do. We buy gas guzzlers, a lot of small oil companies, who borrowed heavily counting on good prices for their oil, go broke, we quit new exploration because it's not worth the effort, and then OPEC cuts off the supply until the prices jack up high again and they have a monopoly. Oh well, enjoy it while we can.
