In Truman’s case, the Secret Service became involved in the largest gun battle of their history.

Of the four, only Reagan was actually hurt.

Andrew Jackson had no guard protection but tried clubbing his assailant with his walking stick. A bear hunter from Tennessee, Davy Crockett, saved him after the assailant’s two guns both jammed.

I do not recall anything about the attempt on Truman’s life by Puerto Rican nationalists in 1950, but I do remember when the same group shot up the House of Representatives in 1954.

Damn good question & answer

Seventeen presidents served in or partially in the twentieth century.

What distinguishing factor sets Harry S Truman above or apart from the other sixteen.

That's easy! He was the only one from Independence, MO, the best hometown in the nation.

Good show, that is the correct answer.

Previously it was indicated that Truman wanted to go to West Point but because of his eyes that was not an option.

But, anyway he went into the reserves in 1905 and ultimately became a Colonel.

His retired reserve pay was something like $111 a month when he left the White House.

He made $100,000 per year as president with no pension when he left.

In '58 he was given $25,000 per year as a pension with a medical benefit and additional office money.

Execution of criminals in Missouri is at the Eastern Reception Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre, Missouri.

Executions are a centralized effort.

However, at one time executions were a decentralized effort with county sheriffs having the responsibility to locally carry out the execution of criminals.

How many executions have taken place in Independence, MO?
