Hmmmm. This item from 50 Years Ago leaves me questioning my memory. When was Noland widened to 4 lanes south of South Ave? How far was the original extension extended? This item was 7 months after I entered the Army and only a couple of weeks after I got on the lovely USNS Buckner in Brooklyn heading for Germany.

The following items were taken from July 12 through 18, 1964, Examiner.
• The Herald Publishing House let a contract for construction of its new building on a four-acre tract on South Noland Road. The contract went to Fender Construction Co. and Irwin Fender said the work is expected to be completed by mid-February.

I believe Fred Fender graduated from WCHS in 1961 and Paul in 1964.

It is about 3 miles from the Square, but not directly east.

Lived up the hill from you? This was the Gates home on East Sea.

When I say lived up the hill I mean I lived down on Truman and Jerry's place was south of me and up the hill. We were kinda like in a valley on Truman compared to 23rd street. Granted he lived probably about 3 or 4 miles "up the hill".... The picture does not look familiar. I don't have any memory of Jerry's house just his back yard. And another guy I remember playing football with was Charles Martin.

This morning's easy one.

Within the city limits of what is now Independence what did Hay Cabin Creek, Cabin Grass Creek, and Straw Hill River all have in common?

They are all names for a single waterway now known by yet another name...

I thought that was what you meant, but wasn't sure. I thought maybe you had lived in our neighborhood at one time. The name of Charles Martin sounds familiar and his face in the Gleam looks vaguely familiar, but not enough to jog my foggy brain.

Please don't tell me they are earlier names for Spring Branch Creek.
