I do agree Newt will not be the nominee, but he may wound MR enough to make a 2nd Obama term inevitable. I doubt the idiots who do compose most of the primary base will be smart enough to put 2 and 2 together afterwards.
Although, it should be noted, there is NO party registration in SC. Anyone can vote in any primary.
I really am afraid that will happen. I do think that by Democrats being able to vote in this primary, many probably did and voted for Gingrich. I think they will in any open primaries. I am pretty sure Fla is closed, correct?
This anti Mormon voting pattern eerily reminds me of George Wallaces' base. A group that could be recognized even when they left *to quote my fav line from Mississippi Burning) their "Trick or Treat outfits" at home.
Both parties have courted Southern bigots through the years, and while there are bigots in every state, IMO, Northern bigots are better at not being used as pawns in political games. SC demonstrates theirs are not good at not being used as pawns.
Well if that's the case, this is a big problem. The Republican Party is a southern party before it's anything else, and he needs strong southern support to win the general election.
I don't know what's so bad about being a Mormon to southern voters (all Christian faiths are frauds to me....don't see why Latter Day Saints should be singled out for ridicule), but they need to get over it if they want to oust Obama.
No get your facts straight. The Republican party is an AMERICAN party. Like there's no Southern Democrats either.

Yes, I am definitely seeing what you are saying here.

I sort of agree, but I don't think it's all about them being anti-Mormon. I think it's also about abortion and gay issues and all that and just a view that Romney is too moderate.
The scary thing, dixiegirl7, is as I posted elsewhere, a POSITIVE message is needed to win the real election, and none of these clowns has one. Those little slogans we all diss, Reagan's Shining City on a Hill, Clinton's I Still Believe in a Place called Hope, and Obama's Yes, we can..they play perfectly into America's penchant for optimism, and simply running a "I hate Obama" message is not going to cut it.
News flash: all 3 aforementioned campaign themes had already been utilized.massively.at this point in each campaign.

For starters that doesn't work, as shown in 2008 with Limbaugh urging supporters to vote for Clinton.
Secondly, South Carolina doesn't register by Party, so yes it is an open Primary system, but that actually benefited Romney and hurt Gingrich. Among Republicans the exit polls showed Newt getting 45% of Republicans, and yes Florida is a closed Primary state.
