As I look back through history, it appears to me that 90% of the credit for the Clinton economic surge just might belong to one Newt Gingrich. Am I mistaken or have I truly discovered a little appreciated fact?

YOu are correct.... Newt brought Clinton screaming and kicking to the center. It was basically shoved down Clintons throat.

Newt got half of his Contract with America passed and had four years of balanced budgets. This never would have happened without Newt and a republican congress. But, Clinton moved to the center and signed Newts legislation into law, something Obama would never do.

Nope. The main reason for Clinton's wildly successful economy was from passing his and the dem's tax plan in 93' without any GOP support.

This was also the #1 contributing factor to the Bush admin tanking the economy, next to the war spending was repealing it and going back to the proven failed right wing "trickle down" economics.

This is why the dems are fighting tooth and nail to get Clinton's tax plan re-instated as it's been proven to give a surplus and get the economy back on track.

I like Newt, and lean right, but IMO the most significant reason for the 90's boom was the advent of the internet. This is also the main reason the economy dropped in 2000 as the polish wore off, and novel .com businesses had no staying power. Take this away, and you have a very different picture in that decade.

All Clinton wanted to do was shove himself down Monica Lewinsky's throat.
