Winter weather Advisories for Litchfield , Hartford, Tolland and Windham tonight.

* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW AND SLEET ACCUMULATION OF UP TO 1 INCH...ALONG WITH UP TO A TENTH OF AN INCH OF ICE.

* TIMING...SNOW BEGINS THIS EVENING...AND CHANGES TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN BY MIDNIGHT. FREEZING RAIN WILL END AS TEMPERATURES WARM ABOVE FREEZING TOWARDS SUNRISE.

But this is miniscual compared to what's happening with the Tornadoes today and thia evening. Towns wiped off the map, flattened again. Mass casualty alert sent so hospitals get ready for overwhelming number of patients. Radar is absolutely insane for March. The outbreak almost rivals last years. Reports of blacktop ripped up and thrown. Debris flying miles away. Pictures are sickening to see again.

It was really nice to see the white stuff flying again! Hopefully we can get one more storm before the blow torch sets in. Highs of 60+ coming next thurs/friday The next about 10 days looks like blowtorch so we have one more window chance after than and then it's all over until next year.

I can't watch these same scenes again. Henryville is flattened. A school bus thrown into a home. The Highschool gone. Trees shaved off. Cars mangled and wrapped in tree trunks.

Is this because media is reporting it more, or are the storms that severe ?? At this rate people are going to want to move to the NorthEast. Too risky in mid section.

When I started the thread I didn't think it would be this devastating. No more watching for me. This is why EVERY SINGLE PERSON NEEDS TO GET TEXT ALERTS TO THEIR CELL PHONE.

Yup, thats definetely a must too but only good if you are aware of a situation though. I've seen people at stores shopping clueless an intense storm was coming. Even looking at the traffic cams out there sooo many cars on the roads and most of them probably unaware of whats coming.

I understand we're just in the way of mother nature and I understand there's more destruction now because population is substantially more and there are more structures because of it, but if we wanna save lives, every single person needs to be in tune with weather.

The best way is to mandate alerts be sent to cell phones which everyone carrys.

BTW - Did you guys know that if there is no structure / tree damage the Tornado will be rated EF0 even though it might of had 200mph winds? Thats because Tornadoes can only be assessed by the damage, so if it happens in an open field its an EF0. Something to think about when seeing reports of more EF3s and 4s. Also the ease of reporting via technology helps too.

BOX forecast discussion describes the upcoming Mon/Tues weather as the "coldest since Dec 18 2011"...how ironic for this winter!

Not everyone carries cell phones, and certainly not in southern and midwestern states. I have family down there, and they don't even have a cell phone signal at their homes. You are often talking about a much more rural situation than what you have in heavily populated and developed Fairfield County. Editing to add that in many if not most southern and midwestern states, towns and cities have a siren that goes off when there is a tornado warning. So for people in town or close enough to hear the siren, they do have some warning. But further out in the country, people often can't hear it.

I grew up in tornado alley, people are pretty much philosophical about tornadoes. It happens. It's terrible but people adapt. There's not going to be a huge influx of people moving north.

I just signed up for WTNH weather alerts, but I will probably sleep through any nighttime texts!
