March 24, 2011 Storm Update:

Surface temps will be around 34 for this storm so accumulations will be limited but here is the 850mb temps... Typically the 850mb temps indicate what type of precip is falling above us. The reason why you use the 850 is because the moisture doesnt have a chance to change over as it falls to surface. Anything north of the 0 degree line is falling as snow.. This is hour 72 and there is precip all around the area at this hour.

Thursdays morning commute might get tricky / slushy.

P.S - Its snowing outside right now...nice to see snow in late March. Something you dont see in warm summer months. MA and southern Vermont will see about 4" today.

Current Observations right now as of 8:40am March 21, 2011. It's Snowing-Raining mix at the coast...Snowing interior sections..

My point about the surface having above freezing temps but at the 850 level its snowing and its not having a chance to melt and change to rain is happening this morning..

I think those that hype/spin weather like AccuWeather knew that 5 days ago…they just wanted to get as much marketing value out of it as possible (lol). Watching AccWeather at the end of winter is the most fun of all. They are always looking for that 99 yard pass…

Heavy snow started around 8:55 AM in Stamford, ended by 9:30 and all of the snow that accumulated on the grass and rooftops has now been washed away by drizzle. This is an awful start to spring.
