As a cab driver once explained to me on a very hot Phoenix day. At least you dont have to shovel heat.
Both have some great and poor aspects to their weather on the whole I would choose Chicago to live as it offers an environment I would be happier in regardless of the weather.
This has certainly been the strangest winter since I moved here 10 years ago. I've only worn a winter coat maybe 3 times so far. Winter is half over and still no snow - last year we'd had over 2 feet by now. The next few days are suppose to be in the mid 50's. Normally if it was in the 50's during January people would be freaking out.....this winter we've just gotten use to it constantly being 10-20 degrees above normal.
Since November 15th this year:
Days in the 19's: 0
Days in the 20's: 3
Days in the 30's: 11
Days in the 40's: 29
Days in the 50's: 14
Since November 15th last year:
Days in the 19's: 2
Days in the 20's: 19
Days in the 30's: 20
Days in the 40's: 10
Days in the 50's: 3
Difference this year to last year:
Days in the 19's: -3
Days in the 20's: -16
Days in the 30's: -9
Days in the 40's: +19
Days in the 50's: +11
I still haven't pulled hats, a scarf or gloves out of the closet.
So you prefer a winter night in Chicago over an 80 degree summer night in Phoenix. That isn't homer talk. Not at all.
Wouldn't it be more logical to compare winter afternoons to summer nights (which, mind you, don't get anywhere near 80 until after most people have gone to bed- I can't tell you how many times I remember it being over 100 at midnight)?
I find the phoenix summer to be much more convenient ..... it doesn't require special clothing, i don't have to shovel my way out of my drive, once on the road I don't have to worry about ice, no mudroom by the door to kick off snow crusted shoes leaving that puddle of grime, no worry about salt stains on clothing, frozen locks, etc.
While neither extreme is enjoyable, I find it easier to just get up and go about my day

This basically sums up how I feel about extreme Heat/Cold.

Not sure how I am being a homer, as I've never lived in Chicago. I have lived in Houston for 26 years, however, so know what 80+ degree weather in the evening is like. Never liked it - never will. That's why I moved to a place where such weather is much less common.
Believe it or not, not everyone has the same preferences as you. If this is what you prefer, however - good on you.
