"Very quick look at possible Columbia SC past ice storms: 2004, 1979, 1969, 1963, 1948, 1946, 1921, 1913, 1899, 1896, 1867?, 1858?, 1857, 1856. Potentially the most severe ice storm in Columbia in 1896. I attached a newspaper clipping here."
They brine the roads here in NC. In our county they usually only brine the right lane of a four lane highway, and driving after a snowstorm, the right lane will be slushy or clear, while the left lane is still snow covered or frozen. The stuff works pretty well.

Here, they will pre-salt the roads before a snow storm, which works the same way. Although, if the snow comes down fast enough (and depending on the temps), the salt won’t melt it quick enough.
Loop past 4hrs. Here it comes...Clipper diving SouthEast
Snowing in Minnesota and Iowa. Freezing Fog in Tennessee and Kentucky
I spy an Ocean storm. 992mb 500+ miles off Virginia Beach
Isn't that Ocean Storm going to evolve into our No'Easter? The size of this storm is going to be massive. Mostly worried about the ice........we were out for 14 hours the first storm of 2022, lucky it was not longer. It was fun for about 20 minutes.
I’ve never seen a truck putting down brine in West Virginia. Is that more of a southern thing?
They do it here. Its a good melting agent but salt works better at colder temps and for ice. Look for white stripes. Thats the brine. Pretty sure they do it there. Maybe?
