Some snow accumulation ( 1 1/2 inches) here north of Durham NC but currently 90 percent of the falling precip is actually sleet. Just took the garbage outside and it’s making a decent racket— the clicking sound of heavy sleet.

Loop with snowfall reports past 4hrs...

Pensacola Naval Station reported flurries/light snow for a brief moment.

Atlanta getting snow now

Just started in Richmond

Hate to see those ice icons. Freezing rain falling all over the Carolinas there

Also see 50-60mph wind gusts in Florida and Georgia even where the snow was falling. Wicked in Georgia right now.

The big picture... Warm Ridge in West.... Upper Low now over Alabama and about to curl Northeast soon. Upper Lows are my favorite atmospheric feature. Fascinating to watch. Just wish it was curling over the coast instead of inland. Ugh. Rainstorm here

Yeah it's sleet here too. My son took the dog out and he said white pellets were sticking to his fur. It looks like snow as it accumulates. They just came and salted my road - yep even in NC!

ETA they just made a 3rd pass. I've always suspected someone who works for the town lives in this neighborhood.

18F and snowing here. We have a little over an inch of dry, powdery snow. Hoping for another 11 inches, but it looks unlikely.

I'm a little NE of Charlotte and it's been sleeting here since at least 5a. We haven't seen any plows in our neighborhood and probably won't until tomorrow. We sent our kids out to shovel and clear off the cars. They no longer want to sled, so they get to shovel.

1:15pm here north of Durham, NC and outdoor temp is still only 26 degrees. “Normally” even on a cloudy day the temp would have risen higher than 26 just from the heating of the day. Definitely a cold mass sitting over top of NC. Sleeting, and breezy to gusty. Thankfully no accumulation on the rural power lines. Power remains on (knock wood).

It's been snowing here for over 2 hours now at a pretty decent clip. Temps still well below freezing. Already a decent accumulation on the ground but you can tell the snow is starting to take on certain sleet characteristics.

What a storm coming up.

Pivoting over Kentuck with some heavy snow bands now.

Suburbs of Atlanta saw 1-3" of snow during the day today.

996mb low over NC right now. Squall line at the coast.

Indiana missing out

Heavy snow rates next few hours for outline in blue

Reports around Atlanta. If you click on the wind report it says 28 trees were down due to the wind plus snow
