Bastardi says MJO moving into Phase 8 which is a cold signal for Feb/Mar. His analogs double weight Feb 2015 which is interesting because we know how cold that month was for the Midwest and Northeast, but I just don't see it happening right now. Especially for the Northeast.
GFS shows basically a torch from the Midwest to the Northeast for the first half of the month. And look at Western Europe. HUGE ridge
Euro for February keeps me in a battle zone temperature spread. Southeast warm, west, Northwest/Northern Plains cold. Interesting that Alaska is a blowtorch and yet the west is cold.
53F and overcast this morning. Winter storm moving through tonight bringing rain to the valley (2500ft) and snow down to 3500ft. Tomorrow will be cold with a high in the 40’s and a low in the 20’s.
Overnight low was 67F (record high overnight low). High of 77F today (nowhere near record high though). Ceiling fan is on in my office as the equipment gives off heat, currently 72F with 51% humidity in the house. A bit on the high side (humidity not temp) but I need my hands to recover from the winter. Working in shorts and t-shirt and bare feet today.
Overcast, muggy, dewpoint 66F, temp 69F. Gulf of Mexico is clearly in control of the entire Gulf South right now. Definitely feels "sub-tropical" today. Wish the sun would come out but the humidity is way too entrenched.
Phone says for nyc “unhealthy air quality for sensitive groups” . I can see smog to the north; 925 mb temperature is 54f, surface is a little colder, so there’s a low level inversion holding pollution in. Yuck!
