There isn't a "normal" for temperatures. There is an average.

3pmEST Temperature departure. Well above and well below not far from eachother. Wow!
and then warmer up in northern Vermont cause there's more sun. Clouds today:

850 hPa temperatures are the same or a bit colder there, but need clouds to keep the surface chilly.

Some instability right at the border of the warm / cool air masses

It's been pretty dry in the SE U.S. lately. Hardly any rain over the past two weeks over a fairly large area.

FL, AL, and GA should get a good bit of rainfall over the next week, but doesn't look like much in Louisiana at this time. I'm hoping there won't be a similar trend this summer.

Nashville, TN hit 90 F / 32 C for the first time on Saturday, May 12.
Bowling Green's topped out at 88 F / 31 C on Friday, May 11 and tied it Saturday, May 12.

High for Bowling Green is supposed to be 93 F / 34 C on Monday, May 14! From SNOW to 93 in four weeks. What is this, Turpan? Kansas? Helmintoller?

Nashville is supposed to hit 94 F / 34 C on Tuesday, May 15.

I don't remember it ever being this hot so early in May. I have experienced 95 in Nashville in May, but that was about May 26 in 2012.

I'm not buying that for my area. Most of the rain will be to my south and east.
