Honestly, I'm enjoying this cool spring in northeast Georgia. I've barely needed to use the air conditioner this month. Normally in April, I have to use the air conditioner during the afternoon and evening hours most days, but this month I've only needed to use it for five or six days so far. Likewise in March, I only needed to use it for five or six days for the entire month. In fact, I used it about as much in February as I have in March and April (so far) combined.

Looking ahead, I won't have to use the air conditioner again until late next week. After that, however, I expect have to use it regularly during the afternoon and evening through May, and I normally have to keep it on 24 hours a day in June, July and August.

April 2018 is set to be possibly in the top 10, maybe even top 5 coldest Aprils on modern record in the Indianapolis area, it’s no wonder trees, shrubs and other plants are a good one to two weeks behind in growth and development as of today, April 20th.

4 maps.. 12:30pmEST

Northeast.. Current Temps and Satellite.. Full Sun and 40s for us here at midday....and with winds from the NorthWest. At least there's sun!

Reason why its not warming up fast even with sun is this................ Air mass at 5000' is below freezing.

In fact its in the low 20s (-6C) over NYC! Near record for that level. Normal for this time of yr is 41°F(+5C)!
It's 4C over Atlanta. Normal is 10C at that level.

But this airmass is moving out. Come next week a warmer airmass moves in (but not crazy warm)

Current 850mb Temps

U.S View

Check out the temp departures for this hour.. Below normal almost everywhere. 12 below normal in Atlanta. 57° with sun there.

Nice afternoon with temp of just 66F at 3 PM. Dewpoint of 43F. Some higher altitude clouds and maybe a bit of haze from controlled burning.

Planting tomatoes in garden.

Nothing crazy hot here yet. Last May we broke a string of records with mid and upper 90's around the 18th to 23rd or sometime around there. Kinda like we did the first part of May 1995. I just hope it is not a super hot May.
