Only 1 other year was colder and that was 100 yrs ago.

So unless you're 100 yrs old in NYC, you haven't experienced this cold for the 2 week period.

So Many Stats to check. Haven't even touched other states or areas.
We just had our second coldest such period (only 1917-8 was colder).
We also just ended our weeklong subfreezing streak. Maybe I'll eat lunch outside in the 40 degree warmth. The Greensboro area has a shot at some freezing rain before their finally done with the cold, but I'm too far east for that.

Finally above freezing here, only 8 hours shy of 2 weeks below freezing. Gross.

Mild weather and even a day with thunderstorms in the forecast, lol wtf.

The average daily temperature in Athens, GA from January 1-7 was 14.8°F below normal, and and every day had an average daily that was more than 10°F below normal. Rounded, the average high temperature was 39°F, and the average low was 17°F. The maximum was 43°F on January 6, and the minimum was 11°F on January 2.

Speaking of 1918, if 2018 is starting off this way, then we can surely expect a triple-digit heat wave across the Northeast (even in Pittsburgh) sometime in August.

After 113 hours at or below freezing we are now above and at 40F. If it hadn't been for the 8 hour warm up on Wednesday, it would have been over 200 hours.

NYC's Avg Max and Min temps were similar to that of Anchorage Alaska's normal past 1-2 weeks.

Granted it was still cold but not like OMG WOW RUN BACK IN cold. lol
yep, I was trying to say it's cold but not OMG WOW RUN BACK IN cold. After today and even yesterday afternoon, the difference was obvious. Like, with 25 degree cold, I don't have to bother with gloves for a short time if I don't care, let alone mittens.

So nei, you had 4 layers? Tshirt, Sweater, Fleece and Jacket? I was fine with 3 layers and no jacket. Just heavy hooded fleece as the outside layer.
long-sleeve shirt rather than T-shirt. I think you do a bit better in cold than me, plus it was -10°F then, I think it was warmer where you are.
