It's funny how the NYC area always manages to end up on the below average side of things when it comes to winter predictions. I've never seen a milder than normal winter prediction, even though there's a 50% it'll happen lol.

I follow him as well. He is from the Chicago area if I'm not mistaken, and I believe his forecasts are not far off from JB, maybe even models JB's analogs.

If this turns out to be a moderate El Nino, and we end up with 3C+ anomalies this winter as weather trends 360 is suggesting, I'm going to bang my head against the wall (especially after this lame summer).

I never heard of weathertrends 360 until the post today. They spend a lot more time bragging about their record than actually talking meteorology and climate. I don't buy their forecast. They act as if you rarely get back to back cold winters. Where were they during the incredibly cold 1980's? I'll stick with Andrew for now and he was dead on last winter.

Lol, NCEP CFS are the worst forecasts. Until the US Govt spends the dollars to have the best model out there, I pay them no mind. It is embarassing and ludicrous that Japan and Europe have much better models. Instead of spending all our money being the policeman of the world, we need to spend money here and keep our noses out of the rest of the worlds business.

Anyway, I usually take the opposite of what they predict, lol.

Interesting article about how bad our models are:

I didn't know about WeatherTrend360 either. in regards to the models... I will post something interesting in the model source thread. GFS is getting upgraded and apparently will be Hi-Res now and the name wil be changed.

They can't upgrade until they get the new supercomputer. And their contract with IBM is on hold now cause IBM sold that contract to Lenova. NOAA doesn't want China providing our supercomputer. Meanwhile Europe just bought their new supercomputer from CRAY, a US company. So, NOAA is stuck and doesn't know what to do. Stupid bureaucracy.

Our models are certainly behind Japan and Europe. Though the Japanese model (Jamstec) is in agreement with CFSv2 about a nasty winter ahead. Bastardi's forecast for the fall and winter is not too far off from the Japanese long range.
