In terms of what?

I'm a NH resident and there hasn't been any extreme changes since the opening of MGM. There has been a small increase in traffic, but that is mostly near and around MGM...but nothing major. I am not sure what you are referring to though.

I am referring to the area outside of the National Harbor mostly. Is the area around the gates improving based on the MGM casino? Interested in improvements to the communities of Oxon Hill and Forest Heights.

Surrounding housing prices are slightly up. Indian Head is getting an improvement.

Fort Washington downstream is seeing a notable uptick in housing prices. This is especially prevalent when assessing the prices of the patches of new construction occurring right now.

The fact that the current improvements to MD-210 seemed to really begin after MGM neared completion makes it difficult to separate the two as coincidence rather than causality. Plans to revamp MD-210 occurred many, many years ago and yet it is only now that the project appears to be funded. Curious.

In any case, National Harbor & MGM seems to be a generally positive boon to the area. Hopefully more commercial, industry and Federal presence takes hold of this still largely open region.

Default ‘Hiding real black history’: Lawsuit fights plan to move historic cemetery at MGM casino’s doorstep

A neighbor told me about this a few months ago. It was her understanding that Peterson had negotiated with the Addison family to move the remains to a nearby cemetery off Livingston Road. From my understanding they were going to be paid for agreeing to do so. In reading this article, I think that the two that brought the suit didn't get a piece of that pie.

I don't think they will be successful with their suit as its not mention that the Addisson in question actually willed the land to his descendants. With no documents backing their assertion then the property would fall under air rights meaning any relative with a remote connection to the property could have rights to it.

Aside from that its a sinking ship. Their is no way that the county is going to let a est 70 person cemetery come between development at the NH. Especially if their are only 2 of the relatives that are contesting the move.

This is what remains of the contested Addison family cemetery — the final resting place of as many as 70 members of a noted Colonial clan. Two of the family’s black descendants filed a $20 million lawsuit against the casino’s developer, claiming ownership of the cemetery last month on the day before the developer sought approval to move the graves to a nearby church.

I agree. If it was that important, they should have done so before NH broke ground. I would love for the county/state to say that if they want to claim ownership then they would be responsible for any outstanding property taxes from the time their ancestor last lived there, future taxes based on improvements to the surrounding area, as well as any fines that occurred over the years for the property being distressed. If they want to own it they need to take full ownership.
