Gibbs offered no specifics about how the White House would proceed in setting in motion legislation for the additional extension -- nor whether the increasing number of 99ers would be eligible for that extension later this year. I was chastised on another board when I said that come november they will have to extend the benefits again. Due to all the grandstanding abou hr4213, this although retroactive is really a 4 month fix. I don;t understand that if this is a standalone, why not just push it to the end of the year.

With this new bill that might be signed...will it apply for those unemployed whose benefits have ended within the past few months or the unemployed that are currently collecting? I think my husband's final check ended 1.5 months ago.

It is supposed to be retroactive, so your husband should get a check for 1.5 months worth of benefits. That is assuming he hasn't exhausted all of the federal tiers.

I'm new here and have been following for a few weeks now and this is my first post. I live in PA and opened my first UC claim on 6-5-09 because of lack of work and was at the time just a few weeks at a time in duration in which I used about 5 weeks of benefits that year. It became a permanant layoff on 12-1 09. I ran out of this first claim and went on EUC Tier I for 4 weeks and then opened a new UC claim on 6-5-10 since I worked enough in 2009. Long story short is I really don't believe I will get called back before this year ends and I will fall just a few days short of the cutoff date of these new extensions so I wish that they would have made it to last until the end of the year.

Yeah, that is correct. There's a rep from my state who posts here and he had said it will be retroactive. He also mentioned (at least in my state), you may be required to submit your job search worksheet to prove that you were still actively looking for work (and meeting your state's requirements) while you were not getting benefits. So I'd make sure that's all up to date.

Of course, he told me that about a month ago...now there's over 2.5M affected which might make the agency's job a bit harder.

reporter on CNN said "it's going to pass today and go for the next 6 months." Wonder if he knows something that we don't?
