Why would a 'barn house' not be allowed?
As long as it meets code requirements it matters little.

If you want a REALLY pretty 'barn house', take a look here:

How's your house coming along OZ? Would love to see some more pictures. Are you finding a way to tame that clay?

All the upstairs walls are done, the plumbing is roughed in for the sink, electrical all done upstairs, mudroom walls almost finished.

Here are a few pics.

The clay isn't too big a deal,I graded the driveway a little and also cut a path through the woods a little a few weeks back.

Oz, that's gorgeous. You are very talented (or is it Mrs. Oz...I've seen how she handled the plumbing). How do you have the space divided?

Well thank you,it is a joint effort.

The upstairs will have a bedroom and walk in closet partitioned off, downstairs we have a bathroom,a mudroom and a laundry room for living space and a 20x36 storage area.

Nice use of space. Your bedroom must be huge! Do you have a kitchen in your plan? On can never have too much storage.

The bedroom will be smaller than our current one,but then this one is way too big...

The kitchen will be along the wall in the first of the pics above, sink will be directly under that window and opposite that will be an island with gas range.

Looks great! Do you have a nice view out that window when you're doing dishes?
