He and I have had this discussion before, though, he may not remember. We do not share the same view points. I told him it is not possible. What I did not continue to say was that it is also inappropriate to even attempt to do it.
I do not watch most videos or links posted on City-data, like I didn't watch L8Gr8apost8's video about a new atheist. I felt like there really wasn't anything to gain from watching a video about a person who may or may not agree with the label "new atheist" as it is being used here.
Sometimes I do click on the links because ideas are expressed differently than how I would have expressed them and I also get to strengthen my vocabulary. I have no interest in improving the definition of new atheists though since I don't think the label is helpful.
New atheists are like gays 20-some years ago. They're coming out after years of suppression and they're doing so "loud and proud."
I see the movement, if it can be characterized as such, as completely normal for any group whose views have been kept largely closeted by a disapproving, predominantly religious culture.
Although I'm prone to some thinking they consider "woo,"I welcome their focus on rationality versus religious indoctrination and superstition. They bring balance.

I think this is a good comparison and very helpful to explaining the behavior of these new atheists.
Some religions teach a hell. If you are talking with people of those types of religions about how a person winds up in hell they'll tell you. They'll tell you from the teachings of that religion. I have had it said to me. It is the same as the atheist who will take away my right to spiritual beliefs. Fundamenatalist religion and New Atheism are mirrors of each other.
there is nothing "balanced" about saying that people are mentally ill if they believe in the Creator.
The content is not balanced, I agree. The emotions behind the behaviors, I think, are equally balanced. And I don't think believing in a creator is the content under discussion. It is telling people they will go to hell or passing laws to work against them.
