After first showing the twin-towers etc. They also didn't have on the cover comments about how his family failed him.
It would appear that did play a role. It isn't about to give him a get out of jail card but why is it wrong to get into every possible circumstance that caused him to do what he did?
Is it wrong to point out that the inner city criminal was likely influenced by a poor family life?

Hey, I've seen McVeigh on covers too....in his orange prison jumpsuit etc.
I'd have no problem with putting his picture up down the road, maybe in a nice article about the death penalty. But think of the phrase "too soon" or some of the phrases on the cover besides the obligatory "monster" and choice of picture as being at best inappropriate then perhaps take a moment to reflect?
Yes people should reflect before getting emotional and reacting out of that emotion. The picture is a great example of the idea that "this is what a terrorist can look like". It's important to note that those who do this are not all stringy bearded zealots.
If tthey want controversy, just put Zimmerman on the cover next month, maybe he can pose with Casey Anthony.
They won't do that, because it would be offensive.... What is the difference? Oh, we all know....
They should put both of them on the cover. They should start dating each other, they both have one big thing in common, they're both murderers who got off.

i think the cover of this magazine is absolutely disrespectful to all the families for what this monster has done. i think RS should be ashamed of themselves for putting that disgusting Russian kids picture on the cover, simply disgusting.
He had a city shut down for days and had ruined many lives, and he is on a cover? WTF???? is wrong here????
it would take me all but of 3 seconds to deceide his fate.
I am thinking like take him in a helicopter while on video and make sure his mother is watching as we drop his scum body into the ocean. That would give me great pleasure, and I would do that for little Martin, that poor little boy, my heart just breaks at the thought of him cheerring his dad om while he ran.
Obviously the article wasn't read as the author doesn't even try and explain why he did what he did. Basically the conclusion of the article is that it makes no sense.
Well then I guess RS is guilty of the old bait and switch.
"How a Popular, Promising Student Was Failed by His Family, Fell Into Radical Islam and Became a Monster."

Yes, I would agree with that. It doesn't explain why he "fell into radical Islam". There is nothing in the article explaining or defining that he was a radical Islamist.
It explained how and why he had great respect for his brother which does go to partially explain the first part along with other parts of the article.

Seems reasonable to infer that he "fell into radical Islam" by following his brother. I suppose "fell under the influence of a radical Islamist" would be more to the point, but probably wouldn't have fit on the cover.

The article doesn't even make the case that his brother was into radical Islamism.
I'd listen to others readings into the article but it read to me like the brother wanted things but he didn't want to do what was needed to achieve those things so he blamed others for his problems.
I do not think Radical Islam teaches that the woman should go out and work while the man lays around the basement all day.
