That what clouds the picture, people think that just because Philadelphia has a larger population it crushes Pittsburgh on all metrics when really Pittsburgh hold its own pretty well in a lot metrics...

Just like SF out shines LA in a lot of key areas even though LA has twice the population of SF.

It's not all about the Size of the City.

The architecture in Pittsburgh is definitely not "nicer" than Philly's. Philly has the history and the real bones in the architecture department. Some of the buildings in Philly are among the oldest in the United States.

Architecturally, Pittsburgh is very, very different than either Cleveland or Buffalo. Both of those are great lake cities and the architecture and natural landscapes are lightyears away from Pittsburgh. The only similarities would be the industrial heritage and the declining populations. Pittsburgh has more in common, architecturally and scenery-wise, with other Appalachian cities. Johnstown or Wheeling could be its little brothers.

Blackbeauty did you just try to compare Pittsburgh with SF?

Look Blackbeauty I understand your frustration and your love for Pittsburgh and many of us Philadelphian's love Pittsburgh as well but you are boosting Pittsburgh ENTIRELY too far.

The only thing Pittsburgh outshines Philly in is less crime.

Philly crushes Pittsburgh in about every other department.

Let's look at the most important thing... GDP

Pittsburgh is $115,752 mill and the 22nd in the United States.

Philadelphia is $346,932 mill and 7th in the US

List of metropolitan areas in the United States by GMP - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

IDK why you hate Philly so much and you can't be proud of having such a powerful city/metro within your state.

She doesn't hate Philly at all. Rather, she's rightfully pointing out that Pittsburgh has a lot to offer. There are certainly tradeoffs to make, but as someone who has lived in both cities, I can say very confidently that I would be happy permanently settling down in either. Besides less crime, Pittsburgh has a much smaller proportion of blighted neighborhoods, a friendlier pedestrian culture, an exceptionally strong Eastern European cultural scene, and prettier topography, along with a rock bottom cost of living. Philly is larger and more cosmopolitan for sure, but that brings along its own set of cons as well. Just trying to keep things in perspective.

What part of an OPINIONATED poll are you completely incapable of understanding? If the OP wanted a ranking of cities in PA by GDP then this thread wouldn't need to exist, a simple link to Wikipedia would suffice. Therefore, there can be no "boosting too far" at all in an opinionated thread such as this.

GDP rank is totally meaningless. Reflecting on the SF/LA example... I would never live in LA and think that SF is a 100x better of a city. The GDP and population size are laughably useless statistics that have almost zero effect on me making that decision.

The greater population in LA is actually a huge negative because of the total lack of viable transit alternatives to automobiles.

Hmmm. I think I'm going to have to take a trip to Pittsburgh to form an educated opinion about the Philly/Pitt rivalry.

Please stop with this SF/LA comparison in regards to Pitt/Philly.

If anything it would be more like Fresno/LA
