Ah, the GBD. Which tried to add a veneer of "credibility" to a "let it run rampant" herd immunity strategy.

Jeffrey Tucker’s libertarian Brownstone Institute nonsense. And Newsweek swung hard Fox News in an attempt to stay in business. Back in the day, it was the moderate Democrat-leaning news weekly competing against moderate Republican-leaning Time Magazine.

With the resistance to vaccine and mask mandates among a substantial minority of our population, this is what's going to happen anyway. We should all realize (regardless of which side of the vaccine issue one is on) the next step forward is to wait and see which idiots drop dead from their hubris and which survive to brag about how they were right all along. It's the new American Way.

Agree. But keep in mind the GBD was advocating this in the absence of vaccines, in Oct 2020. Which would have been disastrous.

I'm not so sure it would have really been all that different. Let's play their scenario for a moment:

- Oct 2020, no vaccine, reopen everything: people who thought that was idiocy would have bunkered up and stayed home as if things were still shut down. Others go out and fill up beds.

- Vaccines come along in 2021 and those bunkered up would still be first to rush out and get vaccinated. Those who aren't vaccinated today would still not be vaccinated and those who are would be.

You have a variable in those beds filling up and additional risk to those workers for those months between rollout and vaccine, but this is effectively what we've been doing anyway. People ignored and fought the mask mandates and shutdowns, people continue to fight vaccine and mask mandates.

The people fighting mask mandates never ended up in a bed and most likely never will.

I know some people are passionate about no longer wanting their kids to wear masks at school. I can't say I'm one of those people, I'm just kind of going with the flow...but to assume that anyone who is not vaccinated or not wearing mask will end up in a bed seems a bit much.

I think i've said before my 75 yr old unvaccinated MIL who is overweight with diabetes and asthma has yet to contract this. I try to play it safe and follow the rules but just because others don't doesn't mean they are going to end up in the hospital.

Do i think she's an idiot? yes

It's only disastrous if you happen to need a hospital bed and you're turned away because they're in triage mode. Even in the bleach and aquarium cleaner era, most people who contracted COVID-19 were just fine a few weeks later. If you're not high risk, it's "only the flu". In this FYIGM era, who cares about high risk people or hospital employees? Those high risk people were circling the drain anyways. The hospital employees can change jobs. It's all logically consistent with the selfish mentality of 21st century 'Murica.

I love watching the corporate establishment slaves, several of whom who seem to think they hold title to this room, poisoning the well regarding any thoughts or information that doesn't fit within the confines of their corporatist media brainwashers. Hilarious. Quite predictable, but hilarious nonetheless. Bahaaaahaaa

We have crossed the line of 750,000 Americans dead from this pandemic. But many people care no more than they did when it was 750 Americans dead, and they are absolutely determined to do nothing that could improve the situation. If you had told me this 10 years ago, I would have told you that you were crazy, and that this was impossible.
