We lost 6 family members yesterday. I find the number of deaths in the past week (14) rather startling. Even with today's numbers we lost no one from the critical list and 1 from the hospitalized list, so that means either the new admissions and critical were replaced by other people or perhaps these deaths are not from the hospital.

I check the infection rate for the state most days, which is a 7-day average. These are the lowest #'s I've seen since I started watching it.

Kent County - 0.0%
New Castle County - 1.5%
Sussex County - 1.0%

The vaccination rate of those 65+ is amazing (to me) - Yay Seniors!

Kent County - 85.3% at least one dose and 76.9% fully vaccinated
New Castle County -89.5% at least one dose and 80.0% fully vaccinated
Sussex County - 94.7% at least one dose - and 87.1% fully vaccinated

I've noticed far fewer masks when I'm out and about. The store where I saw the most masks was The Fresh Market. I continue to wear my mask when I'm inside a store. Interestingly, we've noticed a number of people in what we found a surprising age group masked - younger adults, both male and female - in the 20-30 range. It's refreshing to think that if they're unvaccinated, they're complying with CDC guidelines, but we also wonder if they have young, unvaccinated children or family members they're protecting!!

I have noticed many stores are requiring their sales help to wear the masks still. I wear mine anytime I go inside a store. I ran into And That this week and I estimate it was about half and half in terms of the shoppers and the sales staff all wore masks.

I am anxious to see what those infection rates will be once the summer season gets rolling.

These case numbers are the lowest they have been - only 18 state wide. But the past 2 days our hospitalized number is going up. Wonder if it has anything to do with Memorial Day visitors to the area?

I wouldn't be surprised.

Folks need to realize it isn't over yet.
The more contagious variants are here.
The variants aren't just in India.

Be careful out there.
