Snow started at 8:30 AM in Stamford. The roads are a complete mess. (Note the car sliding in the street below.) I took this picture about 15 minutes ago and now there is almost no visibility.

Anyone know how the Merritt is doing at this time? I get off at Exit 56 and will be leaving work at 6:00......Just wondering / hoping they have been plowing the parkway good.

Post anything related to todays storm in here: https://www.city-data.com/forum/conne...26-2011-a.html

This way we can look back at the storm events.

I heard main roads are fine... Its after 5pm when they will deteriorate.

My wife was working there today (Stamford) and got to leave at 1 instead of 3:30. But I-95 was in pretty good shape (I came down it a little earlier from Bridgeport, but I elaborate more in Cambium's "Snowstorm 1/26/11" thread).

Well,....Another Memory in the books...

This Storm has put us into The Top 10 Snowiest Winters...And we should be breaking records by end of month..

Here's a look at upcoming events... there's more snow coming folks...

Saturday Jan. 29th - 1-3 inches
Sunday Jan. 30th - 1-3 inches
Feb. 1st - 1-3 inches
Feb. 3rd could be a big one..
Feb 5th - light snow showers
Feb. 7th could be a big one again..

I'll leave it at that for now...

Our mentality needs to change. Everyone needs to adjust and cope. Spring/Summer will be here soon.

Not easy to do when you don't get paid every time we get one of these storms..... though I admit it is nice to "enjoy" it a little and not to feel pressured to go in as in my last career (not meant as a rub, been there and then some for those of you that have had to be out in it this morning.....I had "white knuckles" all of the 1995-96 winter). Though as I've learned the last 2 days for the first time in a couple of years, good to have the combination of anti-locks, traction control and at least front wheel drive.

But I wonder (and of course they said this in the late 70s too when we had a string of cold snowy winters), if this is the "new normal" for winters here, maybe municipalities need to see what places like Buffalo or Burlington do......

Looking back at all the ups and downs and changes in the models is pretty fun to read... I thought this was a good one to reply to since nobody picked C. lol The Euro model was right all along. Amazing

* The NAM a short term model only shows until Tuesday night.. storm tracks inland overnight into Wednesday pushing the High to the East which was helping hold cold air in place... mostly rain except for the slight possibility of snow at the onset.

* GFS tracks the low up the coast far enough offshore (by 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon) little or no precip but cold air stays...

* GFS ensembles track the low a little closer to the coast which would indicate some more snow.

* CMC and NAM has a crazy west track with winds from the south and southeast and produces mainly heavy rain.

* Euro just west of the GFS model - closer to coast but far enough to support all snow.

* UKMET model shows snow to rain, and back to snow before ending.

I have never seen a mix of all these senarios in many years..Especially 4 days out!

So take a pick what you want and I'll tell you which model you hope is right.. lol

A. Nothing - continue cold and snow on ground
B. Heavy Flooding Rains - 75% of snow byebye
C. Heavy Snow - Icebergs forming
D. Snow to Rain to Snow - sloppy slippery icy mess for evening
E. Light Snow
