For the golfers, this is an organization that is based in the SE Queens neighborhood of Laurelton, with a Cambria Heights zip code(arguably 2 of the nicest neighborhoods/areas in SE Queens): https://ubga.org/
My landlord (we're friends) once said, "As American cities go, Philadelphia is highly variegated. As Philadelphia neighborhoods go, Germantown is highly variegated."
The boldfaced item is further proof.
The Philadelphia Tennis Club is located in that Black-bourgeois pocket I mentioned upthread (with a link to a WHYY article about it) that's contained within my low-income Census tract on Germantown's east side. I can, and have, walked to it from my home.

You have no idea how good it feels for me to hear this.
We haven't gotten to that point in Fishtown yet (do a Google search on "Black Lives Matter march Fishtown Philadelphia"), but things are headed in the right direction, or at least they were. The sharp rise in violent crime, not just here but elsewhere, could derail things.

Man...if you told someone 40 years ago Boston would have 4,000 black people out inf South Boston drinking, dancing, and just vibing into 10 PM ... and it was under the Black Mayors Summer of Joy??? they would have laughed you out of the stratosphere. My mom was cagey about bringing me to Carson Beach in South Boston in 2007 because when she was a kid it was asking for a fight. I read how they tried to "integrate" that beach in 1976 and it led to a massive melee between blacks and white. It was only in '07 she felt comfortable bringing us there. Now it's the site of protests, Juneteenth events and black and brown teens from all over the city..
Things are shaping up well in the city. As we coast towards a record low homicide and violent crime rate. I don't think there's been a homicide in Boston in a month.
How this isn't in the top 2 for a black middle-class family in the northeast right now is tough to reconcile from my POV. Still it is hard to get black businesses off the ground in a permanent fashion in the more Central Areas near the Lawn On D (whee this BosWhileBlack event was held). There was a recent Globe article on a black business owner who struggled in the Seaport and moved to Manhattan to open her business with no problems. The business owner didn't allege outright discrimination and says they still want to open up in Boston but yea..issues in regard to the lease details and a digital menu board and a deposit or something.. MY friend from Nashville is bringing her 15-year-old son and 12-year-old daughter to their new home in Roxbury today, she was upset to have missed this event but says her kids are excited about the move.
I'm also having conversations with a relatively wealthy family that moved to a MetroWest suburb from Atlanta last year, they're appreciating some of the programmings in the city and have said so far so good in regards to Boston.
In regard to the Fishtown thing its amazing how other city's get passes for things Bosotn simply could never get a pass for. Armed white men stormed the BLM protest in Fishtown? And they BEAT a black man?? Yet that will never damage Philly's rep. It gets to a point where im just baffled honestly.

Naw I think Boston could win this poll I do not think it will because most black people haven't been and NYC is more popular generally. Most of these options are by far and away worse than Boston. No one black and the middle class is tryna raise a family in Brick City. Maybe a young black professional native to North Jersey trying to get out of their parents' house...
Hartford as a city no no no-lived there, no. Bloomfield and Windsor is a totally different story. It should probably be on here instead of Wilmington-Its a much bigger and more independent city. But this article is old and doesn't jive with the more recent stats we've seen.
Boston has the highest black median income of any major metro on the east coast not named DC. Its got more outdoor recreation, black cultural variety, better schools, deeper history and is making more strides than everywhere thats not Philly or NYC.
Boston (and Providence) is the only city on here that's really gaining black population and that's mostly due to the economy and schools. By design, it's just a much more family-friendly environment than Philly or NYC. That's immediately noticeable when you arrive in each of the three cities.
In terms of the bolded words/line, besides some cities in New England, some cities in the Interior Northeast are also gaining in terms of black population. Here is some interesting information from 1980-2010 of cities that have and still are in that portion of the Northeast.
There are others as well. I think this counts alone and in combo non Hispanic at the time, by the way. You’ll notice that some had small populations, but others had above averages in 1980.
So, this can also give an idea in regards to bigger cities and population numbers in the region.
