It is but that just ..well, dumb. Idk what else to say about that. It's not like African Americans don't hold many positions of power. Were certainly over-represented politically in relation to our size of the Black community there. Black is black- maybe not their balck, but its definitely black.

Also if youre Black American and raised in Boston/NYC you are raised around everyone you dont feel like it strange or different. Its just life as a black person. Same way if your raised in DC you eat Mumbo sauce and dont the second guess or if youre from NOLA you have friends who have french names and creole ancestry and yell WHO DAT. Its not odd.

Yea..how do you reassign someone to a box they did not check. I knew it was off when I saw the 4x increase in mixed race people in Brockton in a ten year time frame.

And from just driving around Brockton last time I was in Boston because they’ve got the cheapest dispensaries…I was like yea..?..naw

And Brockton public schools are over 60% black…. And like 2% multi racial

But yea 'Boston doesn't have a black middle class like those cities' lol. The bias is crazy. Whats crazier is people are 99% sure they are right.

What I find equally interesting about these stats:

When it comes to Black poverty, Washington is in the same neighborhood as Philadelphia and Baltimore, not New York and Boston.

Another interesting thing, though, is: the poverty threshold must be higher in DC than in Baltimore or Philadelphia, given those MHIs. If I'm right, a family earning poverty-level wages in DC might have an easier time of it in those latter two cities.

And thanks for posting those stats about Boston.

Man I'm having trouble navigating these links, can you PM me how you do it? I'm trying to do Atlanta, Dallas, Houston, Miami and Charlotte too, maybe you can do it for me? Lol...

Objectively, I feel like it's pretty clear among the big cities and a variety of metrics, the best places for Black people in the Norrheast are DC, NY, and Boston. Philly and Baltimore don't register to the same level of those three...

And the Northeast in general doesn't have many great smaller cities for black people...

To breakdown NYC even further, the rates by borough/county are, Manhattan/NY County: 29.7%

The Bronx: 24.4%

Brooklyn/Kings County: 20%

Queens: 13.3%

Staten Island/Richmond County: 24.4%

Again, these are 2021 1 year estimates and will be different from the previous 2020 5 year estimates. In order of black residents, it goes Brooklyn, The Bronx, Queens, Manhattan and Staten Island. Source: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...61,36081,36085

You just have to know where to look, as many have been posted in the thread. Middletown NY is one that could be put up against similar cities of its size for black people given the lower poverty rate, high HS graduation rate, black income information and black population growth. It is about 23-24% black. So, it is a city with a significant black population.

As for searching, just go here: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/ Then, select your city. Then, go to filters to the left. Select Topics and then click on Income and Poverty. Then, select Poverty. I did it for Atlanta it is 28.5%. To add other cities, click on Geography and then select place. You then select the state and you can pick the city you want from that state or enter the name in the space above the list of places. I did that and Miami is at 28.3%, Charlotte is at 16%, Dallas is at 26.1% and Houston is at 26.5% according to 2021 1 year estimates: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...819000,4835000 So, this goes to show that when looking at the city proper, there isn't much difference when looking at bigger Northeastern and Southern cities in terms of black poverty.

You have to be on a desktop to see these in any reasonable way. If you're on a desktop and click them it all pops up pretty easy, no secret outside of that that requires a PM. If you're still having trouble just let me know and I'll PM you.

What makes the bolded interesting is that the national percentage of the period is 12.8%. So, the black rate in Queens is around the national percentage and the borough/county has over 400,000 black residents(about 17%). If it was a separate city, it would be 3rd in the region in black population.

The national Black poverty rate is 12.8%?

I think we need to adjust our stereotypes, then. I think most people believe that Blacks are disproportionately poor.

Actually, according to this January 2022 Census Bureau press release, the nationwide poverty rate in 2020 was 11.4%, up one percentage point from 2019. The rates and year-over-year changes for the various racial/ethnic groups that year, from highest to lowest, were:

Black: 19.5%, -0.8 points
Hispanic: 17%, +1.3 points
White, including Hispanic: 10.1%, +1 point
White, non-Hispanic: 8.2%, +0.9 points
Asian: 8.1%, -0.7 points

Here are the figures for 2021 with y-o-y percentage-point changes (percentages are clearly rounded to the nearest one-tenth):

Total: 11.6%, +0.1 point
Native American/Alaskan Native: 24.3%, +4.2 points
Black: 19.5%, -0.1 point
Hispanic: 17.1%, +0.1 point
Two or more races: 14.2%, +1 point
White, including Hispanic: 10%, -0.1 point
Asian: 9.3%, +1.2 points
White, non-Hispanic: 8.1%, -0.1 point

(all of these figures based on Current Population Survey 1-year estimates)
