I think we need to adjust our stereotypes, then. I think most people believe that Blacks are disproportionately poor.

Actually, according to this January 2022 Census Bureau press release, the nationwide poverty rate in 2020 was 11.4%, up one percentage point from 2019. The rates and year-over-year changes for the various racial/ethnic groups that year, from highest to lowest, were:

Black: 19.5%, -0.8 points
Hispanic: 17%, +1.3 points
White, including Hispanic: 10.1%, +1 point
White, non-Hispanic: 8.2%, +0.9 points
Asian: 8.1%, -0.7 points

Here are the figures for 2021 with y-o-y percentage-point changes (percentages are clearly rounded to the nearest one-tenth):

Total: 11.6%, +0.1 point
Native American/Alaskan Native: 24.3%, +4.2 points
Black: 19.5%, -0.1 point
Hispanic: 17.1%, +0.1 point
Two or more races: 14.2%, +1 point
White, including Hispanic: 10%, -0.1 point
Asian: 9.3%, +1.2 points
White, non-Hispanic: 8.1%, -0.1 point

(all of these figures based on Current Population Survey 1-year estimates)
I'm sorry, the overall national poverty. it does look like the national black poverty rate has been decreasing though.

Just looking at counties based on 2021 1 year information so far, Rockland County and Nassau County both in NY both have six figure black median and black family median household incomes.

Black median household income for both counties: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...1Y2021.B19013B

Black median family income for both: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...1Y2021.B19113B

Nassau County is 13.3% and Rockland County is 14.5%(alone and in combination): https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...T1Y2021.B02009
https://censusreporter.org/profiles/...sau-county-ny/
https://censusreporter.org/profiles/...and-county-ny/

Both have African American museums/historical societies as well: https://theaamuseum.org/

https://aahsofrockland.org/

Nyack in Rockland County offers the mix of walkability, a substantial black student and area population and good schools. The Haverstraws(North Rockland Schools) may be another option that some go with, with some scattered in the Suffern, Clarkstown, Nanuet and even Orangeburg(Tappan Zee) SD's or stick with the East Ramapo SD(the blackest SD in that county and includes Hillcrest. a now pluralistically black community with a six figure black median and black family median household income).

Baldwin(inc. NW Freeport), the Valley Streams, Elmont and West Hempstead are some Nassau County SD's that offer a mix similar to Nyack. Some go with Lakeview(NY State's blackest census recognized place and has six figure black median and black family median incomes) in the good and pluralistically black Malverne SD, northern Westbury/New Cassel(Westbury SD); parts of Uniondale, even Roosevelt and Hempstead, East Massapequa(primarily in the Amityville and even Farmingdale SD's), etc.

So, both of these suburban counties are options with some of the highest black median household and black family median incomes, while having a long history.

^Just to add, here are some places(cities/towns/CDP's) where the black median household income and median family income are 6 figures using 2020 5 year information.

Milton MA(CDP, same as the town), household: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19013B
Family: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19113B

South Orange NJ(township), household: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19013B
Family: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19113B

Piscataway NJ(township), household: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19013B
Family: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19113B

Naugatuck CT(town), household: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19013B
Family: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19113B

Tobyhanna PA(township), household: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19013B
Family: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19113B

Wheatley Heights NY(CDP with the town of Babylon), household: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19013B
Family: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...5Y2020.B19113B

I'll stop there, but places that came close were Union(township), Teaneck(township) and Mount Holly(township) in NJ; Elkins Park PA and Windsor CT. All just missed in terms of the black median household income, as all were in the $90,000s.

Do we have data for Suffolk and Westchester in 2021/2022?

I spent a few nights there recently while in a wedding in RI.

You will fin d yourself socializing in places like this: https://www.google.com/maps/@41.8725...7i16384!8i8192

https://www.google.com/maps/@41.8786...7i16384!8i8192

Driving through here:

Using 2021 1 year information for Westchester County, the median household income figure is $77,064: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...1Y2021.B19013B
and the median family income figure is $112,848: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...1Y2021.B19113B

As you likely know, places/areas like northern and eastern Mount Vernon, western and northern New Rochelle, the town of Greenburgh(including the village of Elmsford and vicinity, the Parkway Homes/Parkway Gardens area, etc.); northern Peekskill, northern Pelham, parts of White Plains north and east of Downtown and the Runyan Heights neighborhood of Yonkers are some with quite substantial to predominantly black middle class areas in the county.

For Suffolk County, the household income is $94,675: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...1Y2021.B19013B
and family income figure is $113,101: https://data.census.gov/cedsci/table...1Y2021.B19113B

For Suffolk County, Wheatley Heights, the Belmont Park/northern West Babylon area, SE Deer Park, southern Greenlawn/western Elwood, Gordon Heights, SW Central Islip, parts of North Bellport, parts of North Amityville, parts of Sag Harbor and some other parts of the Hamptons are some examples in that county.
