That's it for now...
I'm pretty sure I outlined the history of "the Black Levittown," Willingboro, upthread.

I don't think I touched on Lawnside, but if I didn't, I'm surprised: Lawnside Borough, NJ, formed in 1926 out of part of Center Township, Camden County, which was dissolved so the borough could be created, is the first and oldest Black-run municipality north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Part of a belt of Black settlement in Camden County established by Quaker abolitionists in the 1840s, the community was home to the Underground Railroad's chief record-keeper, "Physician of the Pines" William Still, and also gave shelter to runaway slaves traveling north to freedom on it — the borough seal (you can see it on the borough website) includes a key, a ladder and railroad tracks heading into a tunnel because of its Underground Railroad history. (A gay descendant of William Still's is among my cluster of friends and acquaintances.)

BTW, many of those Blacks who settled in this belt were hardscrabble farmers, and some of those farmers who were getting pushed out of another community in it, Mount Laurel, by whites moving out of South Philadelphia, sued the township in state court over its zoning and housing policies in the 1970s. The state Supreme Court sided with the plaintiffs in a landmark decision known simply as Mount Laurel; the ruling stated that every municipality in New Jersey had to provide its "fair share" of housing for low- to moderate-income people. The leading advocacy group that holds New Jersey municipalities' feet to the fire on the requirement and its residential development affiliate is headquartered in a development it built in Mount Laurel, at 1 Ethel Lawrence Boulevard. Lawrence was the Mount Laurel resident who launched the lawsuit.

There's a good explanation of how Lawnside evolved and why it came to be in this Hidden New Jersey blog post. It also has an easier-to-view copy of the borough seal:

Your attention is called to the element I didn't describe in the post upthread. Lawnside has no college in its borders, but its residents, then and now, value education highly. One of the developments that led to the push to create Lawnside Borough out of Center Township was the construction of a school specifically to serve Lawnside. The school building still stands next to the borough hall.

This is more common than told, as crime is down in many aspects in cities across the country, but certain categories may be up or said categories have “chilled out” as the year progresses.
