So, where on Connecticut Ave is the visual boundary of downtown? Have you ever driven north from Connecticut Ave. and K street up Connecticut Ave to this point? Where does the development break to show a boundary?
Hmmmm! DC has more people DT during the day. Philly has more people DT during the night. So much for your vibrancy argument. Philly's DT is the size of Gallery Place/Penn Quarter/Mt Vernon Sq.

And Penn Quarter is some completely made up ish. It just came out of nowhere. I was riding on Metro one day and the announcement says, "Next stop...Penn Quarter." I thought I had gotten on the wrong train. When I asked someone about it, they said, "Yeah, I heard it's supposed to be an artist district or something." That's laughable. The only "artists" in DC are the lawyer and contractor "wannabe" artists who didn't have the stones to make a less conservative career choice.

If I am not mistaken, you can take a tour of each and learn about history, events that have taken place, see artifacts, answer questions, get facts and figures, etc... At the Supreme Court, you can sit in on a ruling. At the Archives, you can trace your lineage. At the FBI, they have artifacts like John Dillinger's gun or you can listen to J. Edgars secret tapes. This isn't your everyday run of the mill sh*t.

Did you know that places like the FDA, EPA, FCC, SEC, etc are open to the general public? You can sit in on a variety of meetings to hear the latest findings on new drugs for cancer, global warming issues, the future of telecommunications and other related items that shape your everyday existence.

Maybe not cool guys like you and me but some tourist from Podunk loves this type of stuff. These hearings are packed with tourist who want to know how government works. And you know this. You have stayed in DC too long not to see the mobs of out of towners shreking to these events.
