I'll just add a comment in the form of an anecdote.
I was born rather late in life to my mother. The only time I saw her cry was when she talked about the death of her father in 1918 from the Spanish Influenza pandemic. Her father was a young, strong man, a farmer, and even though my mother was a little girl, she still remembered in detail how he was well, then suddenly very sick, in agony, and died, all within less than a week. He left behind a wife and 5 children.
She talked about how the illness ripped through the small farming communities, taking many young adults and leaving children without parents. When people started getting well, widows and widowers married each other for survival, to take care of the surviving children and keep the farms going. This was a traumatic event that forever altered the lives of the survivors.
Bringing my story to current times, my daughter is a scientist and lives in an area not hit as hard by the virus as some other places. Still, she takes this virus very seriously. Interestingly, she is the same age as her great grandfather was when he died in the 1918 pandemic.
I am also taking this pandemic seriously, protecting myself as much as possible, and really wish others would do the same, whatever it takes, and not let their ignorance or arrogance effect the health of the rest of us.

It takes near a miracle to get tested here.
In my opinion our lack of testing and tracking is our weak point .
Not to mention that we were totally lied to about not needing masks.
That lie just makes me sick.
It is not our rural country areas.
Not the folks that speak with a country drawl that support our country lifestyle.
Our weak point is the city peeps that do not seem to care.
...
Testing and contact tracing are (2) important tools in determining cases / location / spread. The USA is still only 'guessing', and you can't out-guess a pandemic in the midst of spread. This, we (USA) will always lose the battle of controlling spread (since we WON'T track and we CAN'T test. (quickly or in masses).
Masks... from day one we (people) knew masks were an important tool AND the advise against masks was to avoid the TP panic response and preserve enough to Medical workers (Who we didn't even have enough masks for...) .
Ironically how some nations got it so right, and we got it so wrong (even tho the evidence was clear, available, and free). We are very vulnerable. (and proud)
Tragedy for all who have lost loved ones, jobs, assets, future, prolonged good health.
Our rural area in TX is far less likely to wear masks than our urban areas (required)
We have few cases, so no one is concerned. We had 3 until 2 weeks ago, now 70 (and no one is concerned.)

Where is this place where all supplies are dropped from helicopters, streets into town are barricaded and anyone who leaves is not allowed to return without a 14-day quarantine? If you aren't living in those conditions, you are interconnected whether you like it or not.

Fascinating, we have that same story in our family. Great great grandparents, had eight children together, she was 35, had just had #8, very beautiful and healthy. Contracted Spanish Flu and died. He married a widow with three and they went on to have five more together, small farming community. Didn't realize how common this was.

My wife and I will be wearing a mask and asked our 35 yo son to wear a mask while he is visiting and getting resupplied with food. USA needs a rapid and reliable test ASAP, even if we have to buy it from China.
Highlighted above^^ doesn't that remark sound a bit racist to anyone.

Yesterday I went grocery shopping and also retail shopping and didn't wear a mask. Most people had one on (or down or half way on), but I still received the same good service. Nobody said anything to me about a mask.

I saw plenty of people blocked from entering stores here. Glad to see it too.

I saw none blocked. I also avoid stores that require masks. These same store will be some of the first to go mandated into bankruptcy. They will open that letter and read it with their mask on. At this point only idiots still wear masks.

For the sake of others, please avoid places where people care about the transmission of a contagious virus. I'm not sure why you'd want to possibly slow down businesses from opening or undo what we stayed in months for. And I hope that businesses keep you out. If you actually care about businesses, show them and their customers respect by not risking their health or them getting shut down. And I have no idea what you're talking about regarding bankruptcy for places that require masks. The public- especially in this area- is solidly behind wearing masks and trying to beat COVID, not prolong it.
And you're wrong about idiots wearing masks. In fact, the opposite is true. I work around infectious disease specialists and other doctors, and I can tell you that here's literally zero debate among both medical and public health experts that it is effective against the spread of airborne droplets. Again, the thing that we can do- the small sacrifice that we can all make- is to help limit transmission. Other than being reflexively stubborn about being told what to do, why are you unwilling to contribute to the greater good? I don't know if you have it, and you don't know if I have it. Why make this public health problem even worse?
