A candidate running on change would never get elected in Kentucky, so all the money is wasted for nothing.
Kentucky's status quo is firmly entrenched and about as movable as Mount Everest.

Running for city council somewhere in KY would require tons of money? Come on... Running for governor would take loads of money, yes, but most people don't try to start at the top and work down.

Also, you don't even have to run for office to make a difference. It could be something as simple as going door-to-door and teaching people the benefits of recycling, for example.

I read lots and lots of excuses, especially from the people who hate where they live(d). I guess it's just easier to sit around an whine and b---h instead of putting energy into changing things.

Stress would be reduced if people just took some simple steps to improve their diet. The GFCF diet works wonders to improve mental clarity and proactivity.

He's from Kentucky and a well known poster on this board.

Also, it's implicit that you're pro-Kentucky and defending the state even while you don't offer any evidence because you hate to see people trash your state.

Likely you hold the "if you're not with it, get out" mentality that most people here do.

He has a long history of posting only negative things about KY. He has moved, which is a good thing, so why come here and continue to post his negativity? Maybe he should research his new state and post about that, because I have read (yes we do read in KY) there is a lot to be concerned about in California also.

I live in a very prosperous and modern state, albeit with an admittedly and incredibly dysfunctional state government. Let's see...just in four weeks, I've already learned a lot about CA and locals have commented on my breadth of knowledge about the area already.

I'm here in CA because I want to be; while I pick on Kentucky, I also critique and praise it when I need to. I left Kentucky because I'm absolutely sick of seeing it ran into the ground by 19th century undereducated country neanderthals when some of its surrounding states, i.e.: Indiana, Virginia, Tennessee, and Missouri, have more cohesive, active and business-friendly methods of attracting and retaining businesses. It breaks my heart, but even my generation (20-somethings) seem content with the Kentucky "the way we've done things" mentality.

California, for all its problems, already has such a massive infrastructure in place that I'm placing my bets on it! This is coming from a conservative.
From the conversations I have had with folks from California, who have lived there much longer than a month, there is much to be concerned with there also. Here is an idea, why don't you google all of the issues in your new state and post about them on the California section? I am sure they would really like to get to know you over there.

Okay, I'm guessing that Kentucky residents are perfectly fine being taken to the woodshed by the surrounding states of Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee in every quality of life ranking and watching those states flourish while Kentucky stays right where it is at the bottom of everything? That is the message I'm getting.

That is just not true to begin with. These silly rankings on things like 'the most stressed' state are just ridiculous. How do you measure such a thing with any validity? People come to sites like City Data to research areas and find out about them usually because they might be moving there or thinking of visiting. We need more positive posters here and not this sort of dribble. Kentucky has a lot to offer people and some beautiful areas. The city I live in (Bowling Green) is on the top 100 cities to retire to as is Murray. They were selected for low cost of living, beautiful and abundant parks and nature, mild climate, universities, and arts. There is so much to offer in KY, we need to see the positive and work on the negative. Those are two examples. This sort of thread is a) silly and inane and b) very negative.

Hello? You don't work on the negative without TALKING about the negative.

Okay see it like this. You are a family that wants to move to a state with a lot of natural beauty. Kentucky has a lot of natural beauty. Virginia is your other choice which is also naturally beautiful. Kentucky; bottom of education and healthcare and lack of good job options. Virginia; near the top in education, solid healthcare, and diversity of solid job options. Which move makes more sense?

If anything I think the posters are too positive (personally I think defensive more than positive.)

Kentucky is just like any other area, it has it's share of problems and it has it's positive, good aspects. Happiness is internal, stress and depression are within the person. Living in state a or state b cannot remedy either. You have to make your own happiness.
