I am going to be moving my family (originally from Indiana) from Florida to Kentucky in 3 months. If anyone has relevant information regarding the Hopkinsville, Cadiz, and/or Princeton area, please do tell. I have a large family of 5 children. My husband is transferring to a higher position within his company and I am finishing up my Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. We would like to move to a small-medium sized town with good family values. We would like to be active in a Christian church and would like to have a nice park and library to utilize. We want a friendly town with a low crime rate as well. If anyone has any information that may be helpful to our family, please do tell. Thank you very much!

On my other post I stated Cadiz is the fastest growing county in Kentucky. There is a wide range of housing options. I chose to live on the lake and would not trade it for anything. I see deer in my back yard every night, turkeys, wildlife everywhere, the view from the house is stunning with lake view and it back sup to the Corp of Engineers, so as you can see there are many options. The school system is great.

Not sure where you get your info, but Cadiz (Trigg County) is not the fastest growing county in Kentucky. Spencer County is, which is located outside of Louisville. Trigg County ranks about 15th fastest growing county in the state.

Mom, I also live in Cadiz (Cadiz-Trigg Tourism, Home of Lake Barkley | Experience Life). Been here permanently for about 3 1/2 years. I have lived in western Kentucky all my life (so far!). Haven't ever found any reason for leaving. My wife and I bought a nice house on a acre about a mile and a half from town. Nice neighbors, no trouble. Like 101st said, we're close to the lakes. As far as a nice park, besides the small park down by the Little River on the west side of Cadiz, there is a 170,000 acre park about 10 miles west. The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area (Land Between The Lakes) has all kinds of hiking and biking trails, camping, fishing, hunting, and plenty of things to see.
Cadiz has a nice library that seems to stay pretty busy. You can check out DVDs too.Lived a couple places that didn't want to fool with movies. Hopkinsville is the "hub" of the area. That's where Walmart is! lol There is also a mall there, but it's not really anything to brag about. Plenty of places to eat, a roller skating rink if any of your youngsters like to skate, and they have their own water park in the summer. My wife likes the Hopkinsville library because of it's large geneology section for western Kentucky. She's been working in geneology for 40 years and loves it. As far as your schooling, if you decide to go further than your bachelor's degree, Murray State University is 35 miles west of here. I know several from around here who commute to Murray for classes. For the 21st consecutive year, the U.S. News and World Report has recognized MSU "one of the best schools in the country in the 2012 U.S.News & World Report’s Best Colleges rankings. The university is at eighth place among the top public regional universities in the South."
If you want to check home prices in the area, we checked (when my wife and I were house looking) at Find Real Estate Listings, School and Neighborhood Information and More - Realtor.com® and type in Cadiz. My step daughter and son-in-law bought a 4 BR, 2 bath house on 14 acres for $140,000. My wife and I bought a 10 yr old 3 BR 2 bath on an acre for $72K. Couldn't tell you much about taxes because we're buying our house on contract and taxes and insurance are added into our payment.
I'm hoping you might have a free weekend sometime to drive up and check out the area. If you're near I-75 in Florida, it's an easy drive. 75 to Chattanooga and I-24 right to Cadiz. Wish you could make it the weekend of October 14th for the Trigg County Country Ham Festival (Home of the Trigg County Country Ham Festival in Cadiz, Trigg County, Kentucky. The best country hams in the world are produced here in Cadiz and Trigg County.. Come up and sample a 4,000 lb country ham biscuit! It's good!

Default Thanks!

So glad for the positive responses regarding Cadiz. Cadiz was actually my first choice, but expanded my area due to inability to find houses for rent in the area. Does anyone have any idea how to go about finding homes for rent? I've tried Craigslist, Realtor.com, online newspapers including Cadiz Record and Kentucky New Era. My husbands boss said most people in that area just put a sign in the yard when they have a house for rent. I would love to visit the area before we move, but I'm not sure how we could do that since our children have school. I certainly do love to hear about festivals in the area though. As I said, we are originally from Indiana and we lived in a small town (not even a stoplight). I miss the festivals and the small town "feel" that we had there. We moved to Florida a year and a half ago because it was always my dream to live here. I'm really not that fond of the cold weather. Living here has made me miss the changing seasons though. I would assume that the weather in Western Kentucky probably won't be too much different than the weather we had in West/Central Indiana. Anyway, thanks for the help everyone!

Cadiz is a little bigger than where you lived in Indiana. We have TWO stoplights! lol There is a rental company downtown. I'll try to get that number this afternoon and get it to you. I'll warn you about the weather. We have a long stretch of hot weather with the heat index between 100-110 degrees.
And I'll TRY not to get going on Hoosier jokes. I used to live, in Kentucky, about 45 miles from Evansville. You know what they call pretty women in Indiana? Tourists. lol

I'll hush!

Would love to have the rental number....but not loving the jokes. As far as the heat-I am moving from Palm Bay, Florida...heat index is usually over 100 daily, at least during the summer. It's the cold that I'm worried about.
