I'm just curious, but if you wanted KY to change so much, why didn't you run for an office to try and change things instead of moving away?

Simple yet great question. I have very little confidence that Kentuckians, spanning generations, truly want to change the way things are in the state socially, culturally, economically, financially, politically, and educationally. We seem to be content with the status quo collectively and "if you don't like it, get out."

The educated "conservative" political platform sure is a national laughingstock when it comes to science.

This describes the Kentucky mentality perfectly.

So in other words, you never tried?

So why didn't you post the same thing on Utah or West Virgina's forum?

Also, how in the world does a culture of "personal laziness" make stress? Seems counter intuitive to me.

I'm guessing the way he sees it; it's the equivalent of being down 42-7 in the fourth quarter with 3:00 to go in a football game. What would be more fruitful trying to make a very unlikely comeback with beat up players or putting backups in to get experience that can bear fruit down the road?

He is from KY, why should he care about what Utah or WV is doing?

Campaigning as an independent for public office would require a sizable sum of money which few people have. To run with party funds would require that the candidate promote party ideology. The second option is useless and would not change anything.
A candidate running on change would never get elected in Kentucky, so all the money is wasted for nothing.
Kentucky's status quo is firmly entrenched and about as movable as Mount Everest.
