We've had less than an inch of snow all this season. Worst since the horrible boring winter of 2012-13. Looks like we will be in the warm sector of the next system coming later week too As of yesterday Chicago/ORD (and IKK) is +5.4F above normal which would put us in the top 25 warmest Decembers on record since 1872 and based on the forecast for the remained of the month we should stay around that ranking.
This can be our salvation though. Classic sudden stratospheric warming on the 0z ECMWF (once again). This will displace and very possibly split the polar vortex before then end of the first week of January. IF this happens, all bets are off for the second half of winter
What’s with La Niña ? The south has been below average so far in December. It should be above average in winter.
That's why I stopped looking at and can't stand 3 month averages or even a month average. It's deceiving to what actually happened or what can happen.
La Nina's "Average" = Warm Southeast, but that doesn't mean its always warm. What makes the Average is Ups and Downs. Same with snowfall totals. Some years are 100 feet. Other years are 0 feet, ect.
With that said, La Nina is only 1 part of a 100 piece climate puzzle. Other things matter too.
With that said, January-Feb could feature more La Nina like conditions in Southeast and so Winter as a whole will show the Warm SouthEast and there is your average La Nina look.

Last time there was a strong La Nina, Florida & Georgia experienced it's coldest December on record (Dec 2010). Much of the eastern half of the U.S. was cold.

Spoiler
Dec of 2010 was much colder than this Dec. I had a few highs in the 40's that Dec. Have not seen highs in the 40's in years. Also Dec of 1989 was cold and active and that was the last of the cold weather for good from all the super freezes from the 1980's.
NOAA’s outlook for 3-4 week range only shows Florida as below average.
That's about when I'll be in the keys
Yesterday TWC app maxed out at 31. KPDK maxed at 32. Some high clouds actually came in around 230. Knew we weren't gonna get much warmer in the afternoon. But it cleared up later. Down to 20 this morning at the lake and here I think. Will have to check KPDK's official low later.
Up to the mid 40s today and sunny. Back to the mid 20s but upper 50s and sunny tomorrow. Should feel great. Yesterday reminded me of Pennsylvania and how much I dislike cold weather. 50s are one thing but non stop 20s and 30s can stay up north.

Mount holly is averaging a high of 46 F in December with mostly warm rain to end the month. That’s not too bad compared to Buffalo or Montreal.
The average high in Mount holly is 37 F for January. After seeing that, anything above 45 feels rather warm.
