Yeah unfortunately most of the snow will be gone by this evening as temps will rise to about 40 degrees with the rain...

Another shot of snow/mix on New Year's Day

January hopefully will be better than this December has been

Im reading that the beast from the east may be hitting Europe in the coming weeks. Monster Greenland block forming coupled with a major SSW event posse leading to a polar vortex split. For now the US looks to be staying on the mild side over all thanks to Pacific teleconnections

Last night was the first really frosty night of the winter here. First night that plants with frost sensitive leaves and flowers were really damaged. I was really surprised that my Alstroemerias were still flowering in the garden on Christmas day, but they didn't last much longer.

This is the part of the year I regard as the waste to be gotten through before spring comes.

Not surprised by the threat of freezing rain up north.
Friday is supposed to be incredibly warm down here (High of 78 F), so I imagine there is a lot of warm air mixing into the midlevels up north.

Interesting how Pennsylvania has a Winter Storm Warning rather than an Ice Storm Warning. I've always thought the Winter Storm Warning was too broad a classification.

That rainfall map is close to what i got. Rained 4 times but only had under 2" for the month while Tampa had a inch more. Jan will be blazing around mid month and Feb will be also like the last two were blazing hot. We had our below normal month for the next 4 years.

9,000 foot temps. Snowing lightly in Chihuahua International Airport in Mexico. 4500'.

That Upper Low in Mexico is going to create an active and complex pattern over Eastern half of US. Already seeing it now with rain, ice, snow. Look at thatg stretch of precip from Mexico to Canada!

Thundersnow in Texas

Could even have some thunderstorms Friday as temps soar into the 50s. Snow will continue to be a no go here in Indianapolis.

Cold air rushing into precip. Looks like a narrow band actually setup. Quick shot of snow. IND was reporting snow, not sure how much stuck at the airport. Active pattern happening but nothing as far as major snowstorms

Not bad we managed to keep the snow today, but it's glazed over with a coating of ice. Still better than nothing....

Maybe some more snow/ice/sleet/rain on New Year's day
