Bad news for the drought stricken West and California............
I often wonder how the 'cold lovers' feel about the homeless freezing to death when their beloved Arctic blasts send temps down into the sub zero regions. A price worth paying so you can get off on it while spending most of the day in a heated building and your night in a warm bed?

Living in FL, I am more concerned about them in the summer heat to be honest. Not entirely sure what your point is? Homelessness is a terrible affliction on our society, but I doubt those who enjoy snow are secretly grinning at the thought of the homeless perishing to death on a park bench.

I don't think they enjoy the idea, but I also don't think it matters to them at all. Also wishing for snow is one thing, expressing your joyful wishing for extreme Arctic cold is another thing. It doesn't have to be -10 degrees to get snow.
I'm interested in and following primarily severe weather, i.e. thunderstorms and related aspects, myself ...but I'd be very careful not to express happiness or joy about a major tornado outbreak given the misery it will inflict on people. And that's generally a no-no in the severe weather community.

I never “Hope” for extreme cold, I never have and I never will. Even when I lived in the Indianapolis area, I always dreaded the moment I heard about the “polar vortex” in the local weather report and the associated extreme cold temperatures that come with it.
I just finished looking at the 18Z GFS in great detail. "Seasonal" cold for the eastern US, not very arctic at all, models have moderated the colder air that was supposed to materialize quite a bit over the past few days unfortunately. There could be some snow potential for next week, but overall the winter continues to be a severe disappointment just like last year.

Here's the Euro 850mb temps.. It's building in Canada. Always nice to see those purples! Looks like a piece breaks off and clips New England on Tuesday then a bigger chunk digs down into the Mid West and Northeast by Friday. Could a Low be forming at the base next week?
Then last image (10 days away) another reinforcing shot possible in the works.
Here is the data for Columbus Ohio from the Euro12z today. Luckily no torch/warmth happening here, staying cold but with no snow! Looks like we will be getting some Arctic blasts coming. We'll see!

Weather is gonna happen whether people wish for it or not. It's like storm chasers - they don't cause tornadoes and hurricanes. That people enjoy it when it happens has nothing to do with a societal issue.
And you're making hefty assumptions about what people do and do not do with their time and money. Your energy would be better directed actually trying to, ya know, help the homeless.

I also hate snow and cold, but I can definitely understand why some people like snow due to the fact that it's needed for winter sports. However, I'll never understand why people like extreme (below 20F) cold. Not only is it uncomfortable, it is destructive to palms and other tropical vegetation. No one should ever root for extreme cold. You can get snow at 25-32 degrees, no need to wish for anything colder than that if you are a snow lover. Anyway, models showing huge SE ridge in Feb

I hope we get at least one arctic blast (though more would be good) with temps close to 0f this season. Hasn't happened since Jan 2019 when we reached 2f. That one looks too weak to be worth a damn here.

Why would you wish for an arctic blast like that? I understand wanting snow if you like winter sports, but who wants extreme cold? Not only uncomfortable, but would kill my palms. Parts of LI and NYC are zone 8a now anyway. You should just move to Canada.

Meanwhile Indianapolis is still just a very marginal 6a if not a borderline 5b/6a.........OTOH Subtropical Fort Worth Texas is almost a borderline zone 8b, I’m happy I get to live here in Fort Worth Texas.
