Looks like some flurries for the Virginia mountains this morning

Buffalo just got hit with a heavy Lake Erie Squall.

Yeah, NAM likes to over amplify things and have a wet bias. But .. I lost track how many times it was right. Including some recent big snow event totals.. Including the rain 4 weeks ago. Was the only one to show more and was right. So sometimes it does score some points.

No surprise there. Start high, come down. Put rain change to snow. That's forecasters motto. Scared to start with cold and snow and change to warmer and rain. lol

Whoa. Even Thunder Snow! It sucks when snow misses to the south here, I'd hate to be there and it misses. lol Thanks for the link. Good stuff.

Here's the Upper Height Jet stream pattern that day. Huge Dip over the U.S and a nice Upper Low right over you! Those are awesome. One of my favorite features.

Not every time the Jet stream dips a cold ball of air closes off like this so that's why it was a rare event.

Meanwhile I got record rains here 3"+ for that event. Too much southerly flow on the right side. Snow down there, none here.

Check out the radar loop from that storm.

Pretty happy about the pattern change.

Maybe some flurries possible over next 10 days, but I don't see any serious snow possibilities yet.

I can't remember the last time we got a heavy snow in December in the tri-state area.

Probably more than 5 yrs, no?

Dec 14, 2013 NYC got 5"

Dec 26-27, 2010 NYC got 20" (One of my most memorable blizzards)

That's pretty much last time. Decembers have been opposite of usual recent years so this year will be nice for a change.

Last time we had a below normal December with above normal snowfall was 2010.

Cold pattern likely to linger into January. Then we'll probably get early heat waves starting in February. LOL

FFL! Finally Front Loaded
