we had a great pre-storm sunset tonight. was clear on the horizon to the west & northwest; bright overcast in every other direction. Was snowing moderately hard this morning, stopped around 10:30 then transitioned to partly cloudy to bright overcast, favorite type of sky. If the storm track was any further north we'd get a part ice storm, part snowstorm. Thankful we're not getting; nearly slipped on the black ice we have the rain on snow we've had.

Kinda figured. Sorry. There's always next winter. lol

Sweet! Enjoy.
Well i had one month i loved. Plus we got over a 1" of rain this last Sunday. But with a flat line upper level pattern i am scared to say we may just go dry until June.

Got up to 69F here today and stayed mostly overcast. Could get a good bit of rain tonight thru tomorrow, and possibly t-storms with some hail threat - under a marginal severe risk. Tomorrow is supposed to be cooler with temps dropping to the 40's by daytime.

An interesting mix of freezing rain, sleet, small hail, and lightning in north TX, southeast OK this evening.

Quote:
DISCUSSION...Recent KFWS (Ft Worth WSR-88D) data show a relatively
quick blossoming of heavier convective cores this evening, generally
centered over Denton County. Lightning has been observed recently as
well. Warm-air advection around 850-700mb and related isentropic
ascent are likely encouraging this evolution, and forecast soundings
depict elevated buoyancy favorable for continued convective growth.
Meanwhile, surface wet-bulb temperatures north of the Metroplex are
near/below freezing. In turn, these convective elements will be
capable of brief bursts of freezing rain, occasionally mixing with
sleet and even small hail (considering steep 700-500mb lapse rates),
over the next several hours. Recent mPing and dual-polarization
(primarily ZDR) data suggest a mixture of freezing rain and small
hail/sleet is likely occurring in heavier cores, and freezing rain
rates of a few hundredths of an inch per hour will be possible. This
activity is expected to lift northeast towards southeastern Oklahoma
through mid evening.

No large landmasses in the higher latitudes in the southern hemisphere. Australia surrounded by water. Same for southern Africa and South America.

Cambridge Bay hit -40C for the first time this season today. Lowest was -44C.

Edit: Wind chills were around -55C with 10mph winds or so.

Epic climate, needless to say.

Winter storm warning for Pittsburgh. Was upgraded in the middle of the night, woke up to 4.5" and still snowing very hard. I don't see a changeover happening soon as it's 27° right now

Red sky in morning Sailors take warning.

Sure enough... here it comes.

2:45-6:45am loop. Orange lines are the upper level flow.

Is that a Tornado Warning in Louisiana overnight?

Current Alerts:

Remember, no more Freezing Rain Advisories.. It will be under Winter Weather Advisory or Winter Storm Watch. They only issue Ice Storm Warning now.

Pinks = Winter Storm Warnings.

Ice Accumulation forecast... Heads up. If the snow starts changing over keep an eye on your temps! If it looks like rain but the temp is 32F or less its Freezing Rain so ice will start accumulating.
