Our winter is almost perfectly aligned with average highs below 10c. They drop below 10c at the end of November, and climb above 10c at the end of Feb. Plants usually lead by a couple of weeks though; things like crocus flower in Jan, with cherry blossoms and daffodils in Feb and Mar.

Our avg high reaches 55f by late Mar/early April, 60f by late April, 65f by mid May, 70f by early/mid June. The peak is 76f in late July/early August, then temps fall below 70f in early Sep, below 65 by late Sep/early Oct, 60 by mid Oct, 55 by early November and 50 by end Nov. The coldest day of the year is in mid Jan, 46f.

Our coldest average temperature is 10c . There are types of flowers that Come out in winter but I don't consider it spring due to the vulnerability and possibility of some serious cold. Coldest temp in January was 18 and now 15 for February and the whole winter.

Hell, I've seen people running in -30C with -40C wind chills in Lake Placid, with proper gear of course.
Your right, wasn't bad. Only did 2 miles. I will admit, was a little tight and tense at first. You have to understand, this is extreme for this area so it's not like the body is used to it. But wasn't bad. Only thing was my throat dried out because I was breathing through mouth. But it's better than those disgusting warm muggy days. Ugh, I don't want them back!

Whoa. You're right!

Also... It may be the coldest in 22yrs for NYC but the last time it was that cold or colder in February was 53 yrs ago! -2° in 1963. So we rarely (recently) have gotten this cold in the month of February.

Nasal breathing may detract from your time but there's much less risk of burning the lungs in frigid weather. Of course, you could breathe through the mouth if it's covered with a balaclava but again that would hamper your time.

Burned lungs; been there, done that. For 24 hrs. unable to get a decent breath of air. Miserable. Wife set up a vapor humidifier and fortunately I recovered.

The cold dry air bothers my throat when I go out. Right after it I get out, I start coughing. After 10 or 15 seconds I stop coughing but it does tickle my throat.

Really? only bothered me since I was breathing more and with mouth open. Lol otherwise this is perfect weather and tolerable. Give me cold and dry over warm and dry or humid any day.

Dont you feel recharged and energized?

I been out of the running loop but might go again later or tomorrow since I didnt go hiking.
