Congrats Boston, it's your coldest day in 59 years!!!
National Weather Service : Observed Weather for past 3 Days : Boston, Logan International Airport

Quote:
Boston's Logan Airport could get its coldest temperature Sunday morning since it dipped to -7 degrees on January 16, 2004. It hasn't been colder than -7 degrees since Jan. 15, 1957. In city records dating to 1872, there have been only 27 days during which temperatures have dipped to -8 degrees or colder. All but one of those days were either in the late 19th century or the first half of the 20th century.

Consider lack of extremes in each season, it's being quite remarkable.

There is this thing called the typhoon rule. What ever the weather in Japan we will get the same most likely in a few days. And that is true as after this a Ridge will form.

Don't get it. Whats the big deal? Funny walking onto my deck it started popping and cracking I thought was going to fall down. LOL

Walked around the block with the dog for 20 minutes. Look at the winds.. None really so -6.4°F wasn't bad. Need a lot more days like this but unfortunately this is near extreme for this area.

Let me pull some maps

Woke up at 5 am and our propane furnace wasn't working. Temperature was -27F, feels like temp was -42F. Thankfully we have a back up pellet stove so my husband fired that up. Checked the propane tank- we are at 50% so that's not the problem.

I did a little googling and it looks like propane tanks can freeze up but at temperatures below -45F. We weren't there so not sure if that's the problem. I was wondering if anyone has had experience with a tank freezing?

The end of February has started to look very cold for the east based on the past few GFS and Euro runs. Almost seems as if the pattern is "re-loading" this week. Won't be drastically above average this week here though as it may be in some other areas further north.

Wow! They are at -9° now. Lets see what the actual low will be. It's been since 1957 being this cold!

NYC HAS JUST HIT 0 DEGREES. Been since 1994.

Bridgeport, CT is at -6° All time low is -7 in 1984!

These are 6am maps. (Not actual lows)

Here also it will be seasonable and slightly above. We will see about the cold, MJO is working against the cold. Hopefully this is it no more Arctic blasts. Raleigh at 17 now. Officially lowest temp of the winter.
