While some locations like Concord, Islip, NY, even Burlington Vermont had a colder low last year or recently, it is pretty darn impressive for a bigger scope of the area as the numbers above show...its been a while since being this cold!

For NYC it is coldest in 22 years.

Also, Islip didn't have a colder low last year. Today's low of 0F sets the record low for the entire month of February.

So it looks like we have a huge warmup coming late in the week, but will it last? Hoping for a warm March.

Thanks. Edited and fixed NYC's number.

Right about Islip, that's why I mentioned "or recently". They hit 0 Jan 2014. Interesting about February record! Wow.

Going for a run right now. Valentines day screwed up my distant hiking plans. I need to find me a woman eskimo. lol

And today many places might set a new record for record low maxima in the month of February.

That's pretty damn cold. Chicago's February record low is -21F.

Not huge, the cold is more anomalous, and it's really seasonable not really a warmup imo, at least for here don't know about you. JB is calling for very very cold weather to come after the warmup and last into march. Take that lightly because there are things working against more severe cold and for it to be prolonged.

Just another week or so of cold/chilly temps and then Spring will be on the way, in 2 weeks the average high will pass 10c, and it should get up to 15c next week.

In about 2 weeks our average high will be 15c. Right now it's about 13c. Spring did start with the early Feb warmup, trees budded, some cherries blossomed, hopefully though after this cold ends, spring is here to stay.

It's coincidence that the end of meteorological winter is accompanied by average highs above 10c on the last day of Feb. We've already had trees blossoming and flowers blooming for the last couple of weeks, but I don't consider it spring until 1st March.

Same, the cold probably put a damper on that but temps look to go back to seasonable. Funny here also as when meteorological spring starts our average high reaches 15c. I consider it spring when our average high reaches 55. Which it did a week ago. Temps rise very fast here, by first week of April average high reaches 70 and 80 by may. Things warm up fast, it's fun to see how things warm up quick.
