Never thought I'd see the day when a place on Long Island gets a daily mean temperature of 0F.

That is some crazy cold you guys are dealing with. Yikes.

Weirdest thing just happened down in the Orange County, CA area. I was outside at around 12 am, when an offshore wind event we were expecting started to occur. Within 5 minutes, it went from calm and somewhat damp and chilly, to a dry, warm northeasterly wind.

By the time 30 minutes had passed, the temp rose from 60 to 63 degrees. Now at 2 am it's steady at 65. Strangest thing I've witnessed during an event like this. Never that much of a warm up in the dead of night with such dry winds.

Interesting to live through. Just imagine if and when the Sound and Ocean are frozen over and the Polar Vortex sinks as far south as it did. Or south more.

Islip goes from a Record 64°F (26 above norm) to a record 9.8" snowfall to a record low of 0°F (27 below norm) within 2 wks

Here is Bridgeport's data. Similar. Goes from 50s & 60° to snow to below zero within 2wks time

Just change the 3 letter station code in the link to see other stations. (BDL, NYC, BOS, PVD, ect, ect)

Last year Islip had their 5th coldest daytime temp for February. Yesterday they had their coldest not passing 13°! Shattering previous record of 17.

For Bridgeport only 1 year had a colder Low Max than yesterday. Rare to experience a cold day AND SUNNY without a deep snowpack as well.

KFOK is a different entity. I honestly expected it to plunge further into the abyss these past two days, although radiational cooling wasn't really a factor.

Wind chill of -16˚C on Mt Wellington, deserves to be on this thread although the temp is only hovering around 0˚C/-1˚C.

Went for a brief walk around 8 am. I think the temperature was somewhere between -4 to -6°F. Chicopee was reading -12°F, but it often reads cold on calm, cold mornings. Most of the stations here were reporting -7°F to -5°F at the time, with one -12°F

Just about to reach 0°F. Clear sky now cloudy, storm is approaching. Birds were chirping outside my home, then saw the cause: a red-tailed hawk flying overheard. Impressed how those little creatures stay warm in this. Few inches of snow than an inch of rain forecast, totals probably depend on when the switchover is sometime tonight.
