The NWS just confirmed it.

I wish they updated the conditions every few minutes instead of every hour. I still can't believe Boston's at -9F though.

I'm extremely impressed with Central Park falling below 0. That's something I thought we might not see happen for another 20 years possibly. Especially since the frigid 2015 winter failed to really even get close, it's pathetically warm this morning here with 59F at the airport. Cold air stayed up north this time unlike last Sunday/Monday when it was 40's here and 30's in NYC.

17°F at your PWS?

The Airport shows 15°F now, but it's probably less built up than where you live.
National Weather Service : Observed Weather for past 3 Days : Raleigh / Durham, Raleigh-Durham International Airport

I wanted to ask, but i just looked it up myself, last February got much colder. (7°F)

No, it's 14 where I live. I live in the country. This cold blast may not be as cold but still by February standards it's colder than what you should expect for a minimum in February typically. At least this year still 8b here.

17.2 in Raleigh according to wunderground. Their weather station must be further in Raleigh unlike RDU

Another good site to keep. Just change the state abbreviation in the link. You can sort by type of weather like who has the lowest low.

Here is NY. Actual lows wont update until NWS officially reports it which I believe is every 6hrs

7am Polar Vortex Update:

That's it, Goodbye. See it? Its curling up and out now already back at Latitude 54N.

Notice the blues are deteriorating in the Northeast US. -20C airmass (whites) will take a little more time to leave and then we start to moderate fast

A look at who's below freezing right now at the surface and below Zero F (whites)

And how about a look at the 850mb temps across the globe..

Coincidence the stratosphere warmed "rapidly" to historic levels and we get this impressive cold? ... in a warm winter to boot!
