Positive PNA = Ridge in West. Negative = Trough. Interesting. Thanks for posting that. So Pac Jet would dive and hit Southern CA instead.

Perhaps there IS a fundamental change going on. If the NAO is positive though just means troughs swinging in and out. Nothing blocking them from slowing or staying in the East. But that Positive PNA change looking good.

BTW ..... Bridgeport, CT currently with a 46.9° December Average temp would be 2nd warmest for the month of March.

The weather we're currently having does not qualify for climatic winter but I'll post in this thread anyway.

A new record high was set for December yesterday at a whopping 12,5°C.

The night had lows warmer than half a year ago...

I can only hope if and when this bull**** ever ends the cold will be just as relentless and extreme.

I thought that forecast for Ottawa was highly unlikely considering the overall pattern, so I looked at the WU forecast. Weather Underground say they're not even getting below +5C on the 23rd, let alone down to -16C... and again, nothing close to -30C on the 28th: more like -4C as a low.

I prefer Fairbanks's Christmas Eve forecast to ours: High -24F, Low -26F. Fairbanks, AK (99701) Forecast | Weather Underground

This must be even more bizarre for you considering you should be able to expect proper winter conditions. Here 11C and raining doesn't feel that different to 6C and raining, but this month will still be an excellent one for the statisticians to mull over because it is going to absolutely smash the previous December record like no monthly record has ever been broken before.

Some oddities from my area:

1 December high 11.6C, 1 June high 11.3C (so 1 January and 1 December both beat the first day of summer this year!)
19 December high 14.3C, 19 June high 13.3C (our new all-time December record)

2 December low 6.8C, 2 June low 6.6C
5 December low 8.9C, 5 June low 8.4C
15 December low 5.7C, 15 June low 3.7C
17 December low 9.7C, 17 June low 9.5C
18 December low 9.0C, 18 June low 7.3C
19 December low 10.1C, 19 June low 8.7C

19 December low 10.1C, 19 June low 8.7C
The sheer number of 10C+ lows and 10C+ highs is just staggering.

20/21 days here have exceeded 10C, with our lowest max being 9.2C, about 1C higher than our normal average max!

In fact, 18/21 days here have exceeded 12C! Normally we can expect a couple of 13C temperatures in December and the occasional 14C, but for about 90% of days to reach this is unheard of.

Our mean is about 1.5C higher than an average Nice December at the moment!

Just had a heavy downpour and I think I heard some thunder. Before today it's been over a month since I last heard thunder. The airport recorded thunder overnight on Dec. 2nd.

Over half an inch in my rain gauge so far today.
