Made me look. Interesting. friend of mine texted me he saw flurries. Probably meant sleet as well.

Temps are crashing below freezing aloft but no threat for wintry accumulations however where there is moisture we could see some mixing.

Tomorrow will be more interesting to see where the Lake Streamers go!

-11C over Kentucky and Ohio right now. The more important freezing line is starting to push to the coast. PUSH!! Almost over me and I can feel the air... nice chill to it finally! 42° at 11:30am

The highest Hill in MA just dropped to near freezing.

It's so dark out, wtf. 47 degrees, feels cool, but it is above normal at this point, so technically I can't complain.

I think it's cool, smart and stupid at the same time. Obviously we finally have temps to support snow making but come Monday and Tuesday its gone. So is it worth 2 days? I guess any snow revenue starved resort says Heck Yeah!

Lucky!
It's still in the mid-50s here, and no snow is expected.
I'm still enjoying the change to average weather, however.

Just got home, opened up GREarth and saw this. Interesting line that formed. Snow showering in the TN mountains there and WV but interesting formation from Kentucky to Ohio. Also notice Lake Erie Machine turned on. Snowing in Buffalo...

Speaking of Buffalo... They were waiting... finally!!!

Brett Anderson, no lover of cold weather, is saying in his latest blog that without doubt February will be the coldest month in the east. If that super cold vortex lets loose in February, then last year will seem like a picnic, and you could very well see January 1985 type temps all the way down into Florida.

You heard it here first. Feb is going to be a killer. Of course not in Europe. When we are warm, they are warm, when we are cold they are still warm.

You would get a lot of credit. You been saying that since August I think.

And even without the PV around check out the dig to the south..

Current 850mb temps. The Freezing Line is just a touch further south than it was November 22nd.

Given how warm its been, the Gulf and Atlantic are going to put up a fight but it's nice to see it off the East coast now. Cool the air and those waters down!

Yeah, the air definitely feels good. And the radar finally looks like winter.

That line of snow heading towards the coast is in response to the trough axis. Mountains getting a nice snow shower. I bet some folks are like, ahhhh, snow... where you been.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PITTSBURGH PA
630 PM EST FRI DEC 18 2015

WITH THE FIRST OF TWO UPPER-LEVEL TROUGH AXES SWINGING THROUGH
EASTERN OHIO...RADAR RETURNS ARE BEGINNING TO BLOSSOM. INCREASING MID-
LEVEL MOISTURE CONTENT COINCIDING WITH LOWERING OF THE DENDRITIC
SNOW GROWTH ZONE HAS YIELDED GAINS IN SNOW SHOWERS BOTH SPATIALLY
AN IN INTENSITY. OPTED TO UP POPS FURTHER WITH THIS UPDATE TO
LIKELIES FOR A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE LOCAL FORECAST AREA.

BRIEF CLEARING EXISTS BEHIND THE FIRST AXIS...ACROSS WESTERN
OHIO. ANOTHER...WEAKER TROUGH AXIS WILL SWING THROUGH
OVERNIGHT...RE-ENFORCING THE DEEPER MID-LEVEL MOISTURE ULTIMATELY
KEEPING SNOW SHOWERS IN THE LOWLANDS AND THE RIDGES LONGER. EVEN
WITH SNOW SHOWERS TAPERING DOWN TO SCATTERED OR ISOLATED LATER
TONIGHT...THE LONGER RESIDENCE TIME SHOULD PROVIDE A BETTER
OPPORTUNITY FOR AT LEAST A QUICK COATING FOR MOST LOCATIONS.
