The most horrible December day in history for the NYC metro was December 7th, 1998. The temperatures reached 24-25C and dew points were upwards of 17C in parts of the metro. This is warmer and more humid than an average day in early June:
This December has not seen such awful days, but at least in that year there was an Arctic outbreak at the end of the month to even out the warm weather from the beginning of that month. Nothing like that in sight for this year.
In other news, Flagstaff AZ was well below zero at -6F this morning. First subzero of the season there.

I remember Christmas in either 2005 or 2006 was insanely warm, it was like 17C and sunny outside, felt like summer! In Brooklyn it always feels hotter than it actually is I think because there are no trees and most of the buildings are brick
Are we expecting high rainfall totals soon? Drove past a "possible water ponding ahead" sign. Not a drop anywhere so far.
With the storms tracking from Missouri Valley to Great Lakes its just missing you and all we're getting is frontal rains which sometimes are lacking. I got 1/2" coming tomm from a front.
If only that Right side of the trough can just shift a few hundred miles we would be getting those storms.. I heard a few complaining about too much rain because of those storms...meanwhile on the west side of the storm its been snow.

Is it picking up an extreme January & February or just spread out cold and wrong for December? I assume most of Decembers data isn't included so maybe it has December as cold...which would obviously be off.

2006. And on January 6, 2007 it hit 22C.
By around themiddle of the month the pattern sharply changed, and we had snow as late as April 8, and a snow threat April 15.
Well it's always good to break a record. If I can't have cold on Christmas, then temps in the mid-70s should be interesting. Better than the 50s blah we usually get on a warm Christmas.
But .0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 0000000000000000000000" inches of snow in December? This weather just needs to appease me and drop some snow. Even if it's just a light flurry, for pete's sake even warm Decembers (like 2006 and 2012) at least pay lip service to snow. A pathetic snow is 100 times better than no snow.
Also, this month is averaging a high of 62 F / 16 C and low of 43 F / 6 C, for an average of roughly 52.5 F / 11.5 C. Warmest December average has been 50.2 F / 10.1 C in 1956. (1889's average was 56.4 F / 13.6 C, but the last person alive in 1889 died in 2006)
