Anyway.. Here's just 6 locations for Jan-Feb-March period. All were coldest on record thanks in most part to February. Impressive and pretty much nobody alive today witnessed a month or a period that cold for most areas.

Don't forget the snowpack duration was Top 10 for many as well.

Now if only the rest of the world can take part and get their coldest Jan to March ever. How bout Europe, I think they have had long enough of a lapse of real cold. If the rest of the world starts getting the cold we got this last winter, then maybe it would stop global warming talk for a while.

Well, we did have our coldest December on record in 2010, and coldest March-April-May period in 2013, plus colder winters of 2011.. this winter just past was pretty much average, the one before was the very mild one!

I used the NCDC CAG app. The other thing was how dry the winter was, in the areas that got record snow. Below normal precip, but record snow.

March-April and May is not winter. Jan thru March is pretty much solid winter.

When was the last time you had the coldest Jan thru March period on record? I'm talking coldest ever, not just cold?

No idea.. Jan through March 2013 would come close, all three months were firmly below average, with March well below average, possibly the coldest ever recorded?

Not sure if that would be the coldest though, if it isn't that, then most likely 1963

Will the Central and Eastern U.S be like a freezer again for a 3rd year in a row or will it be a complete touch like 2011-2012 winter?

Here are some pics I took on the morning of Feb 21st.

The temp was 0F or so during my sunrise run, up from a morning low of -3F. Coldest since 2009.

I get an endorphin release just looking at these pics.

My phone camera sucks hard, sorry about that...

That sky looks beautiful, but what a nightmare, my low was zero, but it only lasted a few minutes. It was already 6F by the time I stepped outside, not that it made much of a difference, it was still the lowest temperature I ever experienced.

Mine had risen from -18 to -7 when I went out.
