Forecast also does not look bad for us winterlovers in Northern Germany.
An anomaly of 1°F means 0.5°C below average, that would be still a mean of about 0-1°C during the winter months, not cold anough for a real cold winter, but we should see much more colder phases than this crazy mild winter of 2013/2014, which almost entirely failed.

-2F is a pretty large deviation over 3 months. if that would come into fruition, it would probably be on par with the 2012/2013 winter.

I don't think I've seen such a crappy forecast in a very longtime:

Bologna, Italy Forecast | Weather Underground

I know it's late november, but come on... the worst thing about this climate is the almost complete absence of wind / storms that could at least shake the things a bit and bring some variability and some dryer air everyonce in a while.

also, 10c here with the rain and fog that comes afterwards feel like 0c. So, no cold ahead but far from comfortable anyway.

I wonder when I will see the sun again. Can't wait for actual cold.

(Antero Isola)

Polar night begins in Nuorgam

The sun set in Nuorgam, Finnish Lapland on Tuesday—and will not rise again until mid-January. Finland’s northernmost town is the first to start the long polar night.

^^
there really is a big difference in the light conditions between 70N and 67N in winter. the polar night is three times longer and the sun is considerably lower under the horizon at solar noon. kiruna has 5h 20min of civil twilight the 21st december, hammerfest has 3h 36 min.
